Ergo Users - help!

Does anyone successfully use the side-carry position?  I've only tried it a few times, but I can never tolerate it longer than 15-20 minutes.  The cross strap doesn't sit right and I feel like it's always pulling on my neck.  Also, I feel like DD is always leaning toward my back (like she's trying to look behind me), but I don't know if SHE is doing that, or if she's off balance in the carrier and she's tending toward that way...

I have been using the ergo since day 1 and I love it, but I would really like to be able to use this side position!  DD will sit in it on my front or back, but she likes to look around and this position is much better for that purpose.

I'm going to re-post this on the AP board too...

Any help out there??

  • Sorry I can't help. Just wanted to add that after watching multiple videos I could not get it so it was not pulling my neck. I have the performance and I think the contoured straps just dont work for it.

  • It just doesn't look comfortable to me. I'm thinking in a few months, I'm going to try the back route.

  • When DD was a baby I went back to the store we got ours from and asked them about the hip carry.  They pretty much discouraged me from trying it, they said it was uncomfortable, so I never even attempted it.
  • I love(d) my ergo, but it's just a really shitty hip carrier.  I HIGHLY recommend a ring sling.  I use my ring sling every.single.day.

  • I only just started able to successfully use the back position - without being choked. Haven't tried side, but in general I found that the instructions with it are not very good.
I use a Maya wrap for side carry and love it. Probably a lot like the ring sling @stefandtodd mentioned.

  • Never tried to do the hip carry with the Ergo. It just never looked comfortable. If I want to carry DD on my hip, I use my Maya Wrap ring sling. You could also use a short woven wrap.

  • I have a chimparoo (similar to ergo) and the hip carry sucks. I use it front of back only. I use a maya wrap or hotslings pouch sling for a hip carry. The hotslings is really quick in out nothing to adjust and you can find them pretty cheap.

  • Haven't tried it yet.
