Box cookie mix?

im a ftm and want to bring Lactation cookies to the hospital, So I bought a package of Betty Crocker cookie mix(makes 3 dozen) to make Lactation cookies, how much Flaxseed and Brewers yeast do I need to add to the mix? Thank you

Re: Box cookie mix?

  • Look up the dr momma lactation cookie recipe, most of the ingredients are meant in some way to help milk production and a packaged cookie mix will not work at all. The lactation cookies are whole wheat flour, flax seeds (1 cup) peanut or almond butter, brewers yeast (3 tablespoons) and oatmeal (oatmeal needs to be real oatmeal, not quick cook) plus other ingredients but these are the important ones. I totally agree with pp, it really isn't necessary to bring them to the hospital. Your milk won't even come in until you come home, in the hospital you will be producing colostrum. The best thing you could do in the hospital for adequate milk production is to drink plenty of water and to nurse as much as possible. If you end up deciding to make the cookies I would definitely start from scratch with the dr momma recipe, it would be basically impossible to figure out how to turn packaged mix into a decent lactation cookie.

  • Ok thank you so much I had no idea, alot of my friends my age didn't produse Enough and their babies were dehydrated and had to be given formula! I'm petrified that will happen and like to have a back up plan :)
  • I would guess that your friends probably ran into trouble due to not nursing frequently and/or supplementing. It's very rare to not produce enough milk if things are done properly. Like pp's said, drink lots of water and nurse a lot. You will feel like your baby is attached to you 24/7 for a few weeks, but it will really help to establish your milk supply. I strongly suggest reading up on breastfeeding at kellymom.com . That website has an amazing amount of information! Good luck!
