What random phobias do you ladies have?

Not really a true phobia, but I'm so grossed out by it that DH tells people I have a phobia:

Turning off the lights downstairs at night...then running up the stairs as fast as I can to the bedroom.  Because I am a pansy like that.

I have a weird form of claustrophobia. If I am sitting, I can't have someone who is taller than me (while seated) standing over me.

True story: when I was younger, I worked in a call center, I told one of the managers and asked him to either sit or crouch down lower. Instead, he waved his hand in front of my face. He became the floor manager later and fired me.

Balloons, because they might pop


Thunder and lightning, but only at night


My only logical one is tornadoes. After experiencing several, even just noticing that the weather is favorable for them gives me a good amount of anxiety.

I am so glad someone else gets it!

One time I had picked up two dozen balloons from the store and was headed to a shower I was hosting with them in my car. Shortly after I got on the highway, several popped. I nearly caused an accident. I was just short of having a panic attack as it was with them in the car. Never again! Someone else can do balloons. Or I will only host balloon free events.

I am totally like this, and if I get home after dark when DH is away I call my dad and make him stay on the phone with me until I get inside.

Like @AnyMax, I am also terrified of tornados - I dream about them hitting our house a lot.  The difference is that I have never experienced one and they are pretty rare around our parts...

Yea well I worked at a flower shop all through college and did deliveries part of the time. Never failed on a windy day (which is quite often in OK) someone would call in an order for like a dozen balloons. I've almost been strangled by the damn things on numerous occasions. So that just added to my pre-existing fear/anxiety.

Same here!  I HATE sleeping in the house by myself while DH is on travel!  Every little noise makes my heart beat so fast!

My other main phobia is hard to explain. I get really bad anxiety if I feel trapped somewhere. It's not so much claustrophobia b/c a small space doesn't trigger it. It's more so if I'm in a public place and am surrounded or feel like I can't 'get out'. Also when I would deliver flowers in college to the maternity ward and they would have to buzz me in & out that always freaked me out.

I think it stems from my control freak side maybe. Not sure

I'm also afraid of walking in the dark. If I'm at home, I have to turn on the light next to my bed and then turn the hall light off so I don't have to be in the dark.

I also hate walking outside by myself when it's dark, but that's just bc I'm afraid of bad people who might approach me. We have no street lights outside my house and MH sometimes forgets to leave the porch light on for me. I hate When I get home really late from work, like 12-2 am, and have to park on the street. Eek

Wet hair that's not naturally attached to a person.  Especially when it's all in a clump at the bottom of the shower....  *shudders*

I can't PIP.  I would vomit.  Kind of making me sick just thinking about it.

I don't think it's a random fear, but mine is definitely snakes!  I can't even see them on tv without getting goosebumps all over.  

When we went on vacation we went to the zoo and, of course, into the reptile house and I was about ready to jump out of my skin the entire time!  I was "that girl" standing in the middle of the hallway because I didn't want to get close to either side's glass.  I was just about having an anxiety attack by the time we left!

This. I call DH a million times when he's working late. Our dog barks at everything so that doesn't help!

But my real phobia is escalators. I got my shoe lace caught in one when I was little..

I'm so glad I'm not alone! In regards to the dark, I am terrified, unless I have my glasses off, which is strange. If I can see, all the lights get turned on when I enter a room. I also run up stairs, and either need the side lamp on when I go to bed or else I jump from the hallway into bed. Yay for small bedrooms!

I hate being alone so much that we got a dog less than a month after moving into our new house, because DH would be on the road. And our house makes strange noises, which freaks me right out.

Also afraid of any bug that flies. Wasps, moths, butterflies, you name it. If it has wings, it can GTFO.

And aliens. The classic, green kind. I can't watch any movies that feature aliens. Firefly, Star Wars, Men in Black, and Star Trek are okay.

My mother was a professional clown. ">  I never understood the fear of clowns.

My mother was a professional clown. ">  I never understood the fear of clowns.

I almost forgot... I'm also very afraid of falling. DH and I got hiking a lot and he always wants to go to the top of rocks for a view. I almost always have a panic attack if it's steep, I have to do a little hop, or there's a chance that I might slip ( even if it's only a couple feet). DH laughs at me, but I often end up crying or feel like I literally can't move my legs.

I understand the fear of clowns and people in costumes. I'm not afraid, just uncomfortable.

Haha. It really does! I didn't notice until you pointed it out. Also, I think tornados are a legit phobia. It would freak me out if we lived in an area that had them.

Oh and a fairly new one for me, drowning in my car.  A couple of years ago a woman and her child drove in to a canal in the winter, and could not get out of the vehicle and they both drowned.
Ever since then I hate driving beside rivers and stuff without my windows down, just in case.
