Bath time

We do baths every other night. I'm dreading it tonight. Monday was basically a water wrestling match with DS trying to drown himself. Do they make a bath time straight jacket? Or does anyone have any tips? He also likes to stand anywhere but the bath mat so yay for danger.

  • I'm waiting for this to happen. He tries to stand but if I distract him, he stops. And when he gets antsy and tries again and again I just take him out.

  • I tried to yank the baby tub out since he's such a "big boy" now. But he just thought that meant a free for all for him and I was a nervous wreck trying to keep him from slipping. Lot of good that did, he slipped anyway and busted his lip (thank God only a small amount of blood and no swelling) which scared the crap out of me. So he's back in the baby tub with rubber ducky as distraction for now and we're working on what "sit down" means, lol. We wash fast, but he thinks splashing is hilarious, so bath time isn't too horrendous, for now. I am dreading the day when I take the baby tub out for good..

  • What is this "distracting" you speak of? I guess that's the problem, if he has zeroed in on something he just ignores me until he gets it. So I thin I'm screwed.

Haha. For us, splashing almost always works. No matter what has him in a trance, he will usually stop to splash like a crazy man.

  • DS likes bath time, but sometimes when we're in a hurry, DH just holds him in the shower, and he rinses him off that way. Could that be an option? That method just requires caution because LO could get slippery.

Speaking of eating the spout, one time I set DS down in the tub/shower floor while I was taking a shower (he had separation anxiety, and I figured I could bathe him and get a shower at the same time). I looked away for a second, and he was crouched down on all fours with his mouth around the drain drinking the water. Mommy fail!

Good luck - hopefully it will get easier!

  • He flips out when I try to use the shower head on him. I should probably get him used to it tbough, maybe I'll work on that.

  • CurlyQ284            I know I shouldn't laugh because once V realizes he CAN stand in the tub, I am in for it, but that is a pretty funny description.

Maebb            The one time I took V in the shower with me sounded a lot like that.....plus he was so squirmy I thought I'd drop him!

For now I'll be grateful I have a boy who loves the bath! Hey....at least I have that since he doesn't love sleep at night!

  • I haven't posted in a long time but I thought I would chime in.  We got a baby bath seat like this one: https://compare.ebay.com/like/251213040892?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

It is a chair that is suctioned to the bottom of the tub so it doesn't move, he gets to splash etc. but his butt is in the water in the chair.  Does that help?
