Two Under 2

carseat placement

Hey ladies.. just visiting from over on the 3rd tri board.  I'm 34 wks along with my second, but I will not have 2u2.  Just a general question for you all who already have 2+ little ones:  if you have a vehicle with no middle seat, where do each of the car seats go? I drive an SUV with 2 bucket seats in the middle, and then a bench seat in the back, and for some reason, I am agonizing over which child to place where.  We had a different vehicle when #1 was born, so she was always in the back middle seat, however in the new car, she's now in the middle passenger''s side.  Is it better to have the older child on the passenger side or vice versa? Oh and DH works at the fire dept and is a certified carseat installer, however he keeps telling me that it's up to me.....

Re: carseat placement

  • I don't really think it matters. My 19 month old is behind the driver (RFing) and my 2 month old behind the passenger.

  • LO#1 is behind the driver's seat since he has an "upright" car seat and LO#2 will be behind the passenger seat in an infant carrier one.  In my little car (Corolla), I couldn't fit the infant carrier behind my seat and still have enough room.

So, I'm another vote for "I don't think it matters."  If they all fit, maybe place them in the order in which you'll likely want to get them out - first one out is behind you.
