Re: Health and Wellness Check In

  • I'll jump in this morning! :). I had to skip my Saturday swim class this past weekend in order to travel a couple of hours by car to visit my grandmother and great grandmother. It was nice but I missed the class for sure. And then my BP spiked so I haven't been able to do anything. I still have my 3rd trimester desire for at least one bite of ice cream every day. Ugh. My goal for this week is to only eat out Friday night due to scheduling and continue to cook at home for meals. Baby steps, right? If I get released from modified bed rest, I'll be headed back to the pool this weekend.

  • I also fell HARD off the horse! I have been really struggling to be healthy lately, and today is supposed to be day 1 (again) back at trying the low carb diet thing. I hate it, but I am trying.

My total for breakfast and lunch today has been 395 cals, 9.5g fat & 43g carbs.

I have tons of calories left, but I am trying to stay under 60g carbs a day, so I really don't have much wiggle room there. I think I am going to make myself an egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms for dinner, since that will be very low carb... the real problem is that I love to snack on fruit, and I really can't do that when trying to be low carb. blahhhhhhhh.....

In addition to wanting to do the low carb thing b/c I have heard it really helps with IVF success, I also would like to lose some weight before I start stims on Aug 31st. I know that only gives me about 2.5 weeks... but if I am super disciplined, I should be able to lose 10 lbs in that amount of time. That would make me feel better. I have just been indulging way too much and eating out... and snacking... and did I mention indulging?

I also gave up my decaf coffee as of today, b/c I can't add creamer and sweetener to it with this diet, and I don't like black coffee... so that is making me cranky. I LOVE coffee. I gave it up in January when we started getting ready for TTC, about 2 months ago I started drinking decaf b/c I missed the taste. The first couple of days without it will be hard, but hopefully it will get easier again.

So that's it from me. I hope to have something better to say next Wednesday...

  • Excited to see this posted. A and I have been doing a lot of work for healthy minds and bodies as of late. We are both trying to consciously work on staying positive, and I have been engaging in simple meditations and manifestation exercises.
Body wise, I have been working out, and eating as healthy as possible. We have been eating a lot more at home and have been focused on free range and organic foods.
The scale has been nice to me in the last couple of weeks. I had gained since finishing my training for theist half marathon I did, and I am back down to where I was at the end of that training cycle.
I am running in a quarter marathon next Sunday and am on track for my second half marathon in October.
I feel like focusing on being healthy is one of the only things we have control over in our lives right now, so maybe I have been obsessive. But, for now, it feels like a healthy outlet.

  • I fell for a while, but made a sweeping declaration not to eat out anymore. I've done well with it so far! My stomach likes me A LOT more (well, minus the possibly pregnancy). We're going to be walking a 5k in October for Make-A-Wish (more on that later), and I've been trying to walk every day, as well as lifting some weights.

I'm also trying to drastically reduce my carb intake as well as sugar intake. I'm doing ok with it so far, but taking away potatoes is very hard!

    Wishing you all well!

TTC our first. Married to, and madly in love with, my beautiful wife. Living with our fur baby and enjoying 19 nieces and nephews.

  • Update: I came in at 60g of carbs on the dot yesterday, and I was quite proud of myself for that. I was light on calories though (only 995 cals yesterday) and my wife yelled at me. HAHA - she said that isn't enough energy to grow a baby!
So I am trying to eat the same number of carbs today, but more calories. I think I am on track for a 1200 calorie day so far and 60g of carbs again, so I think that will be perfect. I hope.
I haven't done this type of tracking of food in a while, and I forgot that I find it to be kind of fun HAHA - it's like a game or a puzzle and I get treats at the end of the night if I am good all day. If I can do this for 3 weeks I think that will be enough to make me lose 5-10 lbs before my egg retrieval, and I know that will make me feel better. So I am hopeful. Here's hoping I am able to stay strong and keep up with this over the weekend...

@Goalieswife - tell us more about this possible pregnancy! Did you test yesterday?

  • Hi! Joining in this week! I had some pretty yucky test results from the doctor and so my RE wants me to get those things under control before we move forward. So K & I have committed to consciously eating healthier. We aren't necessarily tracking or counting, but it's definitely more than I've ever done! Yesterday was a lot harder since we were at a funeral and had catered food. Since I'm an emotional eater it's harder for me to reign it in. But I checked my blood sugar this morning (expecting it to be off the charts) and it was lower than I anticipated, so there's that!

We are trying low sugar, low carb, low calories... basically just trying to be healthier for our future LO. Now just to find something fun to do to work out :( Blah! It hasn't been terrible though :)
