Rumparooz NB Cover vs Thirsties Cover

So to be honest I never knew Rumparooz had a NB cover until I was looking on Diaper Junction's website and I noticed they're $1 cheaper than the Thirsties covers. I really like that Rumparooz has more color options but has anyone actually used their NB covers before? If you've used both which do you prefer? I'll probably order both but just wanted to get an idea. I don't think I've seen any reviews on the Rumparooz NB covers yet either.

Re: Rumparooz NB Cover vs Thirsties Cover

  • The rumparooz and bummis super brite newborn covers were BY FAR my favorites.  We had two thirsties, but the aplix on those was terrible, and was barely even sticking anymore after 8 weeks.  The rumparooz and super brite aplix was great, though, and will definitely hold up through at least one more baby.

DD is about 50th percentile weight/height, and we used her rumparooz cover until she was over 4 months old.  I would absolutely recommend them!

Thank you!! Yeah whenever I see used Thirsties the aplix always looks super worn out compared to most other brands. So that's good to know!

  • Love the RaR covers and Bummis Superbrite, but RaR are my fav. DS is over 12lbs and the aplix ones still fit and the snaps are getting close to being retired. The aplix still look new after all these weeks.

  • Thank you! I'll have to order snaps and aplix of the rumparooz if I decide to buy some! :)
  • I prefer my Thirsties size 1 to my Rumparooz NB. The Rumparooz one is so stiff, and just doesn't seem as comfortable. My aplix might look worn on my Thirsties but it still works fine, and this is my second baby using them. I like the snap closure as well.

So I was looking on Diaper Junction's website. I don't believe the one I was looking at was the duo since it didn't really give numbered sizes, just NB, Small, Medium, and Large. Would the size one be the same as the NB? https://www.diaperjunction.com/thirsties-diaper-cover.html
  • I havenever used both cover wise but I can second the thirsties aplix not being worth a crap after a certain amount of time. The Velcro just isn't the strongest. Looking at the rumparooz, the leg gussets would win me over in a heartbeat. Those are what attracted me to rumparooz (pockets) when we started CD'ing my son a 2 months. I loved them!

  • The RaR NB cover is my favorite! I love it so much that I bought some OS RaRs since he's outgrowing the NB one.

  • Thanks ladies I appreciate the help!!
  • Like pp already said, size 1 is different than size small. I haven't tried size small so I can't speak for them.
  • I much prefer RaRz nb! It was my favourite nb cover, and very adjustable. The aplix one fit from in hospital to 3 months.

  • I am in the minority but I greatly disliked prefolds and covers. I have both the thirsties xs and duo. The duos are actually trimmer between the legs which is better IMO. The xs never fit right, a complete waste.

I didn't end up with any rumperoos but I've heard the OS get really small so you may be able to skip the NB size all together.

I really like the way the OS flip covers fit my 10lber over the thirsties. So OS covers can fit really soon. And OS covers don't add the bulk like OS diapers IMO.

BG aio NB were our favorites, but we did have to add extra absorbency by 2 weeks. I made tiny lay in hemp doublers and they were perfect until my baby got chubby enough for OS diapers.

  • I second, third, fourth that RaR applix is superior to Thirsties. I have RaR OS pocket that I started using at 3 weeks, and I had a peanut (6 lb 6 oz). I didn't try it earlier than that, but I'd wager that it may have fit a newborn, esp on the slightly larger side.

  • I have about 9 RaR Nb covers and prefolds. Purchased after a friends love for RaRs. In my overall stash I have 9 RaR Os pockets, OS covers and Nb covers so I am happy to see the love for them.

  • Thanks for all the responses. I think I'm leaning towards the Rumparooz but I will probably still buy some Thirsties covers as well. Also yeah I don't think I'll be a huge fan of prefolds but I hear they fit newborns best so I figured we'd get some just in case!
  • Rumparooz NB are incredible! I don't even want to use the Thirsties I already have when LO gets bigger. I want to get larger Rumparooz!
