C-sections

Binders after c-section

This was my 3rd c-section (first scheduled), and first time asking for a belly binder during recovery. SO worth it. I didn't buy one, just asked the hospital, so it's nothing fancy. But it makes such a difference for getting out of the bed, walking, laughing, coughing... Rather than reaching quickly or a pillow for pressure during some of these times, it's already there. I didn't buy one because I wasn't sure how it would feel over the incision, and it hasn't bothered it one bit. I just pull it low. Not sure if it matters too - but I'm relatively petite and thankfully don't have extra skin wrapping over the binder. If I had quite a belly yet, it could maybe be uncomfortable. Just thought I'd share as I've seen this brought up a few times on the boards.

Re: Binders after c-section

  • I wore my binder for literally 2 weeks pp and it was amazing. It just felt like it gave me so much more support in that area and especially helped cushion the blow when I burped my son on my shoulder and his feet would kick into my belly. I'm also convinced it helped me lose my belly so quickly. By my 2 week appt I had lost exactly 20lbs, putting me just 5lbs over my pre-preg weight. That may be a stretch, but hey whatever makes you feel better right?
  • I agree! My belly aches if I take it off and it's so hard to get out of bed. It has helped the swelling in my belly go down fast too.

  • I agree! I wish I had known about them for the first 3 Csections! I heard about them with #4 and wore it for 3 or 4 weeks after. I was in heaven. I would definitely say a must for any plus sized mom. Holds things in place. I had the best Csection incision heal ever.

  • I loved the one the hospital gave me!  I wore it constantly for probably 2 weeks.

  • My dr gave me one and I thought it was a required part of my recovery!
  • Why did I not get one after my csection? Sounds like it would have made things a lot easier. I will certainly be requesting one this time! :)

  • A nurse actually told me about a binder and I asked to have one once I was able to get up and walk around- the support it gives helped me get in and out of bed and walk to the bathroom and down the hall!
  • If you bought one, what kind did you buy? I've seen the wraps and the girdle types?

  • I think I'm the odd one. The nurse put one on me the day after my c section and I just assumed it was required since she didn't ask if I even wanted it on. I thought it was annoying and uncomfortable. I took it off and never put it back on.
  • I did not have one the 1st time but will request one this time around for pain mgt and support. I hope it helps with the belly and overhang lol!

  • Is there any point in starting to wear it now if I'm already 2 weeks post surgery?  Any benefit to it at this point?

I didn't have to buy one, but the one the hospital gave me looks exactly like the Belly Bandit, if that helps...
  • I loved my binder!  Too bad LO decided not to nurse while it was on.  I didn't get to wear it as long as I would have liked.
