My 14 week old DD has been REALLY cranky lately; chewing on everything in sight, nursing constantly, drooling all over the place, and crying quite a bit. I've tried to feel around on her gums, but every time I get my finger in there she starts sucking really hard. Any tips, ideas, or tricks to help her?? She doesn't take a paci at all.

Re: teething

  • Apparently the baby oralgel stuff is safe for babies that young, but I'm not comfortable giving it to my lo yet. Right now we're holding teething toys in his mouth for him because he can't quite keep them in himself.

Actually, it may not be safe for babies. Definitely check with your pedi before using orajel. Try cold teething rings, a cold washcloth for baby to chew on (wet it/put it n the fridge)... My son wouldn't nurse so I had to give him bottles of somewhat cold breastmilk. If baby really is crying and in pain, you can give infant Tylenol.

  • Hylands makes teething tablets and they have really helped.

Google "give infant Oragel" before you do. I bought it, Googled it and threw it away.

  • My lo is 15 weeks and is doing the same thing. Someone gave us the MAM teether with the mouthpiece that has little bristles. She loves it. Chews on it all the time and its easy for her to hold even though sometimes I have to hold it for her. She doesn't really like refridgerated teethers yet. Last night she was content chewing my finger.

    New Mommy!!!

  • Thanks so much! I don't really like giving any medicines unless she really needs it (only gave tylenol once because of her shots), so I will try the cold teethters/washcloths and hopefully it will give her some relief! Can't believe we're reaching this stage already, seems like she was just born. Time sure does fly!
