November 2012 Moms

Trip

In October we are making a 5 hour drive to celebrate my DH grandmothers 87th birthday. While it's still 2 months out, and I'm kinda looking forward to it, I'm also dreading it. Obviously, things can change in 2 months. But I'm so nervous about the drive and the sleeping arrangements. DH dad's house is small and the whole family is staying there. We will have our own room, but if LO wakes at night, he'll probably wake everyone. I tend to worry about things that I don't need to worry about, or that are far in advance, but I can't help it.
Right now he STTN 90% of the time, but with teething and crawling and cruising and now trying to walk, he's unpredictable.

Re: Trip

  • We just did a 17 hour road trip, one way, so really 2 times! It was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, in fact she slept about 15 hours of it each time. As far as sleeping arrangements she was out of wack for about 2 nights and woke a few people up 1 night but since we were in the same room I was able to help her before things got too bad. I'm sure your family will understand that he is a baby and unpredictable and hopefully they just roll with it!

  • We're leaving for our 7-hour trip at the end of the week.  I think we've decided to get up at 315 and leave at 330.  Totally dreading it.

I'm also worried about random wakeups because we'll all be in the same house. Hopefully everyone will just be in a great mood (and mostly drunk) because we're on vacay!!

  • We did a 10 hour drive with V last month. He was great!

We got some new toys for the car and introduced one every couple of hours. Also had some books. We stopped 3 times each way. We were able to feed him while driving once each way (I know...not the best idea but it worked for him and us).

I had downloaded some Elmo and Thomas videos on my IPad but we didn't need them.

We did leave early each way...like 4 am. He slept the whole first leg. It was great and I recommend it if you can!

As far as sleep, we did get a little messed up (not much) but we got back to our routine pretty quickly when we got home.

We are about 20 hours in to what would be a 20 hour drive (still have 5-6hrs left) for our move from CO to CA with baby (who is teething) and two large dogs. May I suggest nobody ever do this ever. We can't even drive the speeds we'd like to b/c we are hauling a trailer chock full of all the stuff we took with us to CO for the summer. Everything else is in a POD. Needless to say a 5 hour drive to a fun weekend sounds pretty harmless. Sorry, vent over. At any rate, I'm sure it'll be fine. And your LO is a cutie so I really wouldn't worry about people staying mad at him for waking them up.
    Welcome to Cali!
