C-sections

Going into labour before scheduled c/s

Did this happen to anyone? I'm scheduled for a c/s at 38w5d for a breech baby, but I'm scared I'll go into labour before then and have it turn into a panicked c/s. it's my second baby (first c/s), so I'm worried if I go into labour it could be fast. So if this happened to anyone, what was it like? Panicked and rushed? Calm and controlled?

Re: Going into labour before scheduled c/s

  • I had two scheduled c sections but went into labor early both times. First time I waited 5 hours because there was a back up for OR, second time I went in the middle of the night and as soon as my doctor arrived, I had the c section. There was no panic or concern from anyone. I liked that I still got that surprise delivery even though I had c sections.

  • This has been my fear, going into labor before my c section. My OB did say to come right in with ANY signs of labor.
  • My csection was scheduled for 39 weeks. 38 weeks and 2 days my water broke, went to the hospital at 2am, and my contractions were about 3-4 mins apart but they weren't very strong. Since I was having a RCS anyway, and I wasn't in much pain, they didn't even check if I was dialated. They woke up the on call doc at 5:30am and she scheduled my section for 7am. No rushed feeling at all and like a PP said, DH and I got a few quiet hours together before hand. The only part that stunk was my OB was on vacation until the day after my section so he didn't do the surgery, but the doc who did was excellent and I'm recovering well so I can't complain.
  • I had a scheduled c/s for nearly 40 weeks. My water broke at 39 weeks. We called the hospital, packed some things and went in (we got there within an hour).

I was having contractions, but I had eaten only a couple hours before, so they waited about 6 hours. Monitored my labor and baby's heart rate. And I had my c/s after the 6 hours.

    It was totally fine.

  • Thanks for sharing your experiences ladies, it helped ease my anxiety. I had an appointment with my doctor and we discussed it. She said it could actually be better for baby if I go into labour first - the contractions help squeeze some fluid out of baby's lungs, and exposure to the hormones of labour could have benefits. So I'm feeling much better about the whole thing!

  • I went into labor 2 NIGHTS before my CS! The contractions started at about 9:00 p.m. and we went in close to 10...When I got there, my doctor was not on call that weekend (IKR) so they had to call another one in to do the surgery. I was already dilated 3 cm and by now, I had gotten to 6. The contractions were about 3 minutes apart now and we were STILL waiting on the doctor! Finally my water broke and I remember thinking, "This kid is gonna force my hand and make me deliver naturally." The anesthesiologist had arrived and was getting impatient, and finally....finally a doctor!!! (who arrived right at midnight) After that, everything went quickly, and I was loopy (thanks hospital drugs :) ) and sleepy, so I was quite entertaining during LD. At 12:25, my petite princess arrived fighting everyone and very healthy...:)
  • My water broke a few days before my scheduled RCS.  It happened around 8 PM, I showered and got to the hospital at 9, and DS was born at 12:06 AM.  In those three hours I was tested to make sure my water had actually broken and a surgical team was assembled (it was a holiday evening and I delivered at a smallish hospital).  It was SO much calmer than my first c/s, which was an emergency.  I was having contractions, but they weren't as bad as with DD, and everything was much more relaxed.
