(I swear I won't be posting new names to discuss here every day.)

We've been toying with the idea of using a Swedish MN (or FN) for this baby, and I happened upon this name on BTN. It's a girl's name, pronounced "grue". It wouldn't work as a FN for us, but I like it as a MN with Scarlett.

(Also it means "dawn," which I think is sort of lame with Scarlett, but no one will know unless they ask or look it up. It's not like actually naming a kid Red Dawn...right?)

Though you will probably get a lot of questions if you use Gry.  And one of them will probably "What does it mean?"  So they will know by the end of the conversation that her name means Red Dawn.

Pronounced Grue like the Despicable Me character Gru? My kids love those movies so I would have to pass on it as a MN for their baby sister.

Ah, interesting. I'm behind the curve on kids' movies since my daughters don't have the attention span for them yet. Thanks for bringing that up!

More or less. I think it's softer on the "oo" sound; less "ew."

I think it would make a great middle name, but for a first name I just cannot get past the spelling.  Gry - looks too much like Cry or Guy.

I think its a really interesting name and like it for the mn spot.   I don't think many people at all would make  the "dawn" connection-  I was more worried people would think it was supposed to be Grey and just misspelled.

I think of "cry" which is not the best connotation, or that it is Gary with the A left out.

I think this is a good point.

It is one vowel away from grey, so it is a no from me.
