crib naps

How do you get your baby to nap in their crib? How long does it take to get them to sleep? My lo has no problem going down for the night in his room but will only nap in my bed with me. Now that he's rolling over I'm not comfortable with that. Help! I want to work on healthy habits.

Re: crib naps

  • Thank you! That gives me hope :). I have to remember he will only be a baby for a short while and I can really make it through anything.

I bounce and sway DS until he is really sleepy but not quite passed out. I then put him on his back in his crib with white noise playing. I cover him with an Aden and Anais blanket. He will rub the blanket and suck n his hand to soothe himself to sleep. It works about 75% of the time. I will let him fuss a little in the crib and he usually settles himself down.

If he cries (this happens less and less frequently), I go get him and repeat the process. Usually he will go down the second time. A couple of times, I have had to put him down three times.

If he gets really worked up and is screaming and won't calm down, I will nurse him for a bit then try again. It sounds like a lot of work, but most of the time it's easy. I think routine and consistency is really important!

Eta: he has been night sleeping in his crib since we brought him home from the hospital but has only been napping there consistently for two weeks.

  • How long does it take usually? Today it took me literally an hour and a half to get him to sleep, which feels like a waste of daytime.
