Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this and my deepest condolences to you and your little boy.
My father passed tragically when I was 10 and from experience I can say I was very grateful for the adults who were honest with me rather than trying to shield me. My sister was 6 and understood a little less, but says she understood she would never see him again. I cannot imagine having to break this news to my child, stay strong...he will need his mama for sure.
