TTTS, first preg, any suggestions

Hey ladies, it's my first pregnancy and we are having twin boys. Today our specialist told us that baby A is taking up more fluid and nutrients than baby B, however they're weights aren't that far apart, one is 1.8 and the other us 1.5, so he labeled us at stage 1, for TTTS, a little scared, don't know what to expect any one go through this? Any advice? Suggestions? Words of advice?

  • google la fetal surgery. i saw dr. chmait. he studied under dr. quintero who devised the staging scale. he was great and he has a more informative website. get in to consult with a specialist asap. ttts isn't anything to mess around with. sometimes it resolves on it's own but most of the time it doesn't. i had fetal laser surgery and both girls came out great. they weren't far off in weight yet either, but by the time i had surgery we were in stage 2. i'm not sure how far along you are, but if you're less than 26 weeks, you need to be monitored super close.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

This!  The website is a great source of information and education on TTTS.  I'd also join the FB group since you can get lots of support from other people who have gone through it.  Best wishes!  My twins were diagnosed with stage I but never progressed farther.  My treatment included weekly ultrasounds and then hospitalization at 24 weeks.  They did have some growth discordance and blood flow problems which required them to be born early.
  • Thank you everyone for the post! I actually have an appointment w Dr. Quintero on Monday afternoon, we were very nervous about seeing him and having to discuss surgery at such a young stage, we are 23 w 5 days, and thanks to your comments feel a lot better about meeting him on Monday!
  • I didn't see him, I saw his protege instead, but I know he is a great doctor and you will be in good hands.  It's better to correct it now if indicated rather than wait and be forced into an early delivery.  Good luck and keep us posted!
