This is what we got for my MIL who watches DS two days a week but rarely goes anywhere in the car with him. It's just as safe as the Britax we have in our cars probably just not as comfy for a long car ride which is not necessary for MIL anyway.
Edit: also it's recommended in baby bargains as a grandparent carseat.

Trade out the Scenera suggestion for the Apt, not much more $$ wise but lasts longer. Or the Evenflo Sureride. About $80 and lasts both rf and ff much longer than most budget seats. And grandparent friendly.

I keep forgetting about the Apt! That thing has a super tall shell. Worth the extra $$$
