My 7 1/2 month old son has been very constipated lately and is passing hard pellets of stool the last couple of days. I have cut out apples, bananas, and rice cereal from his diet (reverse BRAT diet) for almost a week and have been giving him prunes, peaches, and pears with most meals and it didn't seem to help. I ended up trying juice since the other things weren't working, but the juice doesn't seem to be doing anything either. I have tried both prune and prune juice mixed with apple. This morning he had a very small BM that was a bit softer than it has been, but no where near back to what he normally has. Before I have to go the medication route I wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions I could try. I spoke to my pediatrician's nurse a few days ago and she had recommended apple juice so should I just try this by itself? I ended up mixing it with the prune juice just because my sister (who has 3 kids) said prune juice worked like a charm for her kids when they were babies. Any ideas?
Re: 7 1/2 month old constipated
When my LO became constipated we stopped the rice cereal all together. We did prunes, pears, and green veggies. He ended up having a huuuuge poop. We then started giving him oatmeal cereal once a day.
I also give him some pear juice diluted with water in a sippy cup everyday.
