Sunday Dinner...

I love making Sunday dinners...just something about it for me. Just put my version of PW's Dr. Pepper pork {no Dr. Pepper at all!} in the oven and about to make some quac and shred some cheese. 6 hours from now, we're having the most delicious tacos/nachos. Having my best friend over, since his husband is OOT. Bought a 5lb butt to make it with...we'll have pork in the freezer for weeks!

Anybody else love Sunday meals? What's your favorite? What are you making for dinner tonight?

I use 1 can of Coke and 1 beer {Strawberry Abita if I have any or something Mexican} I hate the chemically taste of Dr. P and it makes it was too sweet IMO.

I think my fav is a roast beef with all the trimmings in the crockpot. Today we're making a lamb stew, though, one of my husband's recipes...

I will have to try that sometime. I love PW! 

I also add cumin and take out the extra brown sugar too.

I loooove Sunday dinners! My mom always made an effort to cook amazing Sunday meals for us, and I've been attempting to do the same :P She did roast beef, pork loin, roast chickens, etc, with mashed potatoes, gravy... the whole deal. I don't go crazy like that all that consistently, but every month or so I'll do it. But I always make sure Sunday dinners are something special, and we almost always have someone over for dinner on Sundays - either my parents, DH's parents, our siblings, or all of them. 

Tonight DH's sister and her hubby are coming over and I'm making slow cooker sloppy joe's with homemade hamburger buns, coleslaw, and a raspberry chocolate tart for dessert. Mmmm... I just look the buns out of the oven, and the house smells amazing!

Tonight's a meatloaf, baked potatoes, salad, and homemade applesauce night. DH has to work night shift so it's just the kids and I.

DH's friend is still in town.  We are having steak on the grill with potatoes and watermelon.

Because the cook time and the original idea was hers. I don't usually steal people's recipes and call them my own no matter what changes I make.

I need to start making Sundays for slow cooking...we go to church at 6 pm usually but we're waiting til DS is older to go back. We went to a pool party our apts were holding and won $10 gift card to Wendy's so I think we'll walk down there later for dinner.

We are having chicken noodle soup (one of the few things i cook that dd1 really likes) and rolls. I love special Sunday dinners and do them as much as I can. I'm sure once the girls are a bit older it will be easier to make a big meal!

That's fair, I just didn't realize that cooking pork in liquid for hours was something that would be "stealing", my mistake. And by the way, I was just joking around. I don't really care what you call your dinner.

Oh I didn't think you were serious, but I am pretty serious about "adapting" recipes. I always credit the original. It's just sort of a habit. Chefs take a lot of time to develop recipes. Maybe not this one, since it's so easy, but typically it takes a lot of trial and error.

This is what we had.  Super easy and cheap.   

Dh is working two extra shifts today so it's just me and the kids for dinner.  Adding garlic butter to the base of the french bread, under the sauce, makes it taste sooo yummy.  (this was a last minute idea of mine)

That said, my pulled pork is better, but it's a lot more work.

Still don't do it. It's not PW's fault that Dr. P is disgusting. LOL

I never have an overwhelming amount of fat. Yes, there is fat, but I just pick it off when I'm shredding it.

Combine and rub into pork. (If you're picky about your meat, trim as much fat off as you can before cooking. Much easier than trying to do it later.) Place meat in slow cooker along with the following:

1 sliced bell pepper
1 sliced medium onion
18oz jar BBQ sauce

If you want it sweeter, add up to 1/2 cup brown sugar.

Cook 10 hours on low. Should fall apart.

If you put it in a dutch oven on 300* it takes about 5hr for a 5lb butt. You just need to flip it a couple of times throughout the day. Oh and the recipe I made is not BBQ pork @rockyrollgirl just so you know. It's more Mexican taco/nacho style. I love a BBQ pork sandwich though! This sounds yummy.

we grilled chicken w/ balsamic italian, oven roasted brussels sprouts, & salad. usually we do a pretty easy dinner since sunday is usually an all-day beach day.
