Just for fun...

What is everyones favourite kitchen appliance? When we moved back in May I didnt unpack my Breadmaker until last week. Sure enough I manage to make two loaves of bread before it broke. Luckily the newer version of mine was on sale this week so I went and bought another one! I can't even explain how stupidly happy my bread maker makes me lol. This is my favourite appliance (followed closely by my crockpot) and I am so happy to be using it again! We save so much money making homemade bread. The bread DH likes is $3 a loaf and I can make the same kind at home for about $1. Right now I have cinnamon raisin bread baking and tomorrow I am going to make Tangy Gnger Bread. I have so many recipes for tasty bread variations its hard to choose which one to make - garlic bread, French bread, Italian herb, caraway rye, whole wheat, 12 grain, cinnamon rolls... The list just goes on! One of the biggest scams around is the French bread you buy at the grocery store bakery. It's five ingredients and using the dough setting on my bread maker it takes almost no effort. The ingredients to make it at home is roughly $0.50 and they charge $3 or more. What kitchen appliance gets the most use and why do you love it?

Re: Just for fun...

  • Mine is my kitchen aid mixer because I bake a lot. For dh it is definitely the blender because he makes smoothies almost daily.
  • Coffee maker and the keurig. I have a brand new Vitamix which may take first place soon.

Your post makes me want to go out and buy a bread maker, haha! The thought of having sweet cinnamon raisin bread baking and filling up my house with that amazing smell just makes me want one.
I have to say the coffee maker is the only appliance we use every day. Couldn't live without it. Everything else I don't use as often.

  • My new bread maker was only $75 plus tax. Where we live the cheapest loaf of white bread (yuk!) is $1 and the good 12 grain bread is $3 or more. Since DH goes through at least one loaf a week just for breakfast it makes sense for us. The best is when you set the delay timer so that it goes off just before your alarm clock and the whole house smells like warm fresh bread. I personally set the coffee maker for the same time so breakfast is basically hot and ready as I stumble down the stairs. I have recipes for hamburger/hotdog buns, bread sticks, pretzels, even bagels. I've even made cinnamon buns e night before and let them rise overnight so all I had to do was bake them in the morning. And btw, that raisin bread was the best I have ever tasted. It was in the recipe book that came with the bread maker. If anyone wants to get one I recommend Black & Decker 3lb horizontal loaf model. It makes 3 sizes of bread and the 3 lb loaf is huge!
  • My rice cooker!  It's a Japanese one and it's awesome.  Cooks rice and holds it warm after for an hour.  All you have to do is rinse it first!  Also has a basket for veggies which is great as DD's fav food is steamed broccoli!  LOL

Haha, that is what I was thinking as I read it! YUM!
  • I vote for my Keurig as well.  If it quit working I would have some issues!
