Girl name to go with Griffey?

I'm having boy/girl twins in December. My husband chose Griffey (after Ken Griffey, Jr.) I know, I know. It's awful. So now I am stuck trying to come up with a suitable girl's name. I don't like Gabby or any other "G" names I've heard. My other two daughters are Lela Madelyn and Jada Lauren. Help, please!

If you think it is awful, why in the world are you moving forward with it? Why not make it a MN?
Sorry , I just can't get by the boy name to make other suggestions.

    Edit: ok, how about Giselle?

  • If you HATE it there will never be a girl name that "sounds good" with it! Good Luck

  • Well, this will be my husband's only boy. He said we can make it a middle name or possibly short for Griffin. He will go by Griffey, though. If you can't be helpful, why post?
  • You could go for Griffin, and let your husband call him Griffey.. Our daughter is Adelaide and I refuse to call her anything but (I named her Adelaide because I love that name). But, my husband and most of our family call her Addie. And that's okay with me.. And as she gets older she can decide if she wants to go by Adelaide or Addie.
  • Thanks for nothing, guys!

Please don't be surprised that the posters on this, the baby names board, are going to comment on your choice of Griffey for a boy.
While it's not my style, I personally have greater issues with how it seems YH seems to dictate that it's non-negotiable. I can confidently say that the majority of posters here do not believe one parent has greater say over naming a child, regardless of sex, then the other. Therefore, your logic that since it's his only boy he gets naming rights doesn't fly.

However, to answer your question. Since YH feels strongly about naming your son in honor a favorite athlete, is there some celebrity/athlete you are a fan?

  • We agreed he would name the boy, and I would name the girl. I guess I fail to see the issue there? He doesn't like any of my name choices, and we literally agree on nothing. I love old fashioned names such as Amelia and Nora. I just don't think they flow with Griffey very well. Thank you for your suggestions.
  • Griffin is better, but why not use Griffey's first name?  Nothing wrong with Kenneth.  Especially in the MN spot as a honorific.

Boys: Griffin Oliver, Owen Kenneth, Ian Griffey
Girls: Mara Elizabeth, Keira Michelle, Isla Christine, Nina Katherine
  • Griffey is fine when short for griffin. I think you could pair a ton of good names. Hazel, Ada, Isabel, Penelope
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! I think Griffin and Nora sound lovely together. Besides, you are naming two people, not a set. When they get older it wont matter that Nora's twin brother goes by Griffey and vice versa.

  • Well, before we agreed that he would name the boy and I would name the girl, we literally could not agree on a single name, girl or boy. It's not a sexist issue or one of us having more say- so. It seemed like the easiest solution. I'm not giving up on names because he doesn't like them. Its more that I'm trying to make sure they go together. He did compromise on using Griffin, so I can compromise on my names, as well.
  • If you like Amelia and Nora then choose one of those. They are both great names.. And I wouldn't even give pairing it with Griffey much thought. Griffey doesn't necessarily pair well with Lela and Jada either.. So why worry for this daughter's name? Just because they are twins doesn't mean everything about them needs to be a pair.

I just think if you hate a name that is not a good thing. No one should be forced to have their child named something they hate.
