An ally is a friend, Ali is an Arabic man's name, an alley is a place to get stabbed, and Aly, phonetically, would be "AYE-lee." The only way to spell it, IMO, is Allie. Also that's my full name, and how I spell it. But even if I wasn't biased, that's how I'd feel.
My sister spell's her daughter's nickname Alie, (I think it is wrong) She did it because her name is Alessandra, so she didn't want 2 L's or a Y because they are not in her name. I don't agree but do what ever you want, that is the joy of naming a child!

You actually didn't list the one way that I personally would spell it - Alli. I have a friend named Alexandra and that is how she spells her nickname. Allie is closest so I say go with that. My next choice would be Ali.
Honestly, the only ones I am really against are Alley and Ally. An alley is a narrow passageway. An ally is someone you unite with for mutual benefit. I would probably also nix Aly, just because more people are likely to spell it with the I and not the Y.
Re: How would you spell the NN AL-ee?

umm, there' no "i" in Alessandra either.
