dispose of an American Flag

We just bought a new flag to hang outside our house since our current one is tattered and discolored. Does anyone know the proper way to dispose of it or who to give it too? Last time I gave it to a friend who was in the Reserves but no longer is at this time. He took it to base and did a proper disposal.

You could try contacting your local American Legion, or the VFW

I have heard of boy scouts collecting them to burn.

Our library collects them, maybe yours does to?

We have taken them to the local VFW.  They collect them and then have a ceremony to burn them.

As the wife of a sailor in the us navy, I thank you for your care in such a matter. Many people don't care about how flags are disposed of.

Please remember that at night a light should always be shining on the flag. If not, it should be taken down at sunset.

Our local American Legion hosts a disposal ceremony twice a year. I'd try contacting them.
