What are you working on with your toddler?

What are some things that you are working on at home with your toddler as far as teaching goes? We are still working on saying more words, which he has picked up a few in the last few weeks but I'm trying to find out I guess what we SHOULD be working on. I am trying to find a good milestone chart to find milestones that he should be reaching soon that we may need to work on.

 

Another question, how long do you read to your LO for? I aim for 10 mins at a time but he loves to take the book and flip it all around then get up and get another.

We have a little Melissa&Doug clock where the numbers are shaped blocks (this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GKATU0). He loves to point at the numbers and then me saying them. So far he knows the 3,7 and 12. I don't know if he recognizes them by number, color or shape though ;-) He still does not talk, so we are trying to encourage him to try new sounds/say a word. We play with his flash cards a lot (we have these sets: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/075661516X/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015YV6H6/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0756615178/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and he recognizes all the pictures. I ask for example "Where is the square present" and he'll hand me the correct card. He understands them in both English and German. Lately he is really into puzzles. We have 3 wooden ones and he loves to put them together and does them correctly, which really surprised me at first. He's good at puzzles! With all doors closed, I'll ask "Where are the rabbits?" and he'll open the right door. I want to start asking him about the colors and numbers on this board to teach him those. 

I have no idea what milestones he should reach next, to be honest. He seems to learn things at his own pace, no matter how hard I try to "keep him on track", so I just don't try anymore and am happy when he learns something new. 

We read several times a day, he loves books. I have a big basket full of books on our couch and we usually snuggle up together and read them one after the other. He usually picks the next one when we are on the second to last page of our current book. Our reading sessions usually last somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes. DH does bedtime stories and he is usually in there for at least 30 minutes, too.

DD knows her numbers 1-10 and points out number everywhere we go. We just started working on the alphabet. I am also working on saying please and thank you. What I really want is for her to say her own name. I am obsessed with her saying her name. Sigh

We're working on colors, shapes, numbers and alphabet. Sometimes he's into it, sometimes he's not. We only do it if it seems like he's having fun.

We do not have any type of structured learning, but I do go over things like colors, numbers, and words. We have been working on please and thank you. E has thank you down, but please is a work in progress.

E loves to be read to and loves to "read" by herself. She has a couple of favorite books that we read over and over again-to the point where she has them memorized and mimics the way I read and emphasize some of the words when she reads by herself. (She cannot read the book word for word, just certain words on certain pages mixed in with a lot of gibberish words.)

We read a couple times throughout the day and for about 20 minutes before bedtime.

I have a bunch of sets of flashcards that LO loves to look at. We do the numbers, letters, shapes and colors. He can only say a few, but is starting to at least recognize more. I also am working on him using words all the time to tell me what he wants (as opposed to just pointing or crying, lol) and using short sentences, like "milk please mama" etc.

I read probably 5-10 books a day. They are usually very short, so maybe 10-20 minutes total. He freaking loves books.

Colors and numbers are what we are working on now.  His vocab is over 100 words now so once I felt that he was confident there I moved on.  He knows his colors by pointing but only says a few, blue, black, pink, orange.  He gets better every day though.
