Making own baby food question

For those that make your own purees, what equipment do you use? For instance, I have a food processor and an immersion blender. Will either one give me better results? I also already have a steamer that was a gift so I'll probably put that to good use as well. What did you store your purees in? I'm thinking I'll be freezing some but I don't have a huge freezer. Thanks for the help!

Re: Making own baby food question

  • I use the manic bullet. Also I freeze them in ice cube trays. It takes 2 tbsp to fill one. The pedi recommended 2 tbsp a day in the beginning so it works perfectly. Once they are frozen I put it in a ziplock freeing up the trays to make more!

  • I used used both, based on how I cooked the food. So, if I roasted sweet potatoes or squash, I used the food processor. If I was cooking apples or pears or something on the stovetop, then I used the immersion blender so I wouldn't have to move stuff out. I  had 1 and 2 oz. containers for them. I can't remember the brand, but I didn't like them, so I'll probably just do the covered ice cube tray this time around and move to ziplocks when they're frozen.
  • I use the baby bullet and steamer. I love the XO Tot baby food trays. They are the best ones I have used and its very easy to pop out the cubes of food. I usually freeze in the trays and then put the cubes in freezer bags. https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Baby-Freezer-White-Green/dp/B0038JE5Y2. This is the tray I use.
  • I have a Vitamix and a Baby Bullet for when we start solids. I'll probably use the Vitamix more often because it's huge and I can use it so many different ways. I'll probably just use covered ice cube trays to freeze them. That's what my cousin has always done and she said it works well.

  • I used my blender- and would store in ice cub trays.

A friend had got me a baby bullet but it broke really fast- I still had a lot of the storage containers from it and used those as well. You can buy them separate. They have 1-31 on them and you can set what day you made it and keep in the fridge or freezer!
  • I use my blender & freeze in regular ice cube trays that I cover.  After the food is frozen I transfer it to baggies to store in the freezer or fridge for when we need them.
  • If OP doesn't mind, I'd like to add a side question .. ? Do the ice cube trays specifically have to say BPA free? I don't see any that state it, but it could be a given?
  • I found that my immersion blender with the jar attachment gave me the silkiest purées. I froze them in the Green Sprouts silicone trays. They are 1-ounce portions, and silicone so no BPAs and flexible so easy to pop out and store in 1quart ziplock freezer bags.
