Limitations after C-section

My discharging nurse sucked-bad.. So she didn't give me a lot of feedback on what limitations I have when I got home and I forgot to ask.. And now my docs office is closed. All I was told was to not lift anything heavier than my baby.. Bit from friends heard no stairs.. Or pushing a vaacuume..? Is there anything else I need to avoid? TIA!!

Re: Limitations after C-section

  • My doctor told me that I shouldn't be bending over or stooping, like to load the dishwasher, get laundry out of the dryer, or pick something up off the floor, etc.
  • Loading the player...
  • All of the above plus no driving till I was off Percoset and able to slam on the brakes without being in pain.

  • No lifting anything over 10lbs. My nurse said to take the car seat and baby out separately. No stairs, vacuuming, baths (the position to get into the bath), laundry or anything that involves squatting or bending. Move around but know your limitations. Keep the incision clean and DRY at all times. Ice three times a day. This is all I can remember. Good luck!
  • My doc said listen to your body when it comes to the stairs but that it wasnt off limits.
My big advice is be extra careful while on pain meds (even motrin). An easy way to over do it is to block the pain with medicine then do something that might be too much (like laundry). Your body wont be able to send you the right signals if you are blocking the pain with meds.
  • You ladies are great, thank you again!
  • I was told not to lift anything over baby in a carrier.  I had no limitations on stairs.  I was told no cleaning or exercising for 6w.  I was allowed to drive 1w pp.

  • Nurse told me not to drive, but my OB told me ahead of time that I could. I limited my trips up the stairs to once a day. By day three I had no trouble. No baths, vacuuming or exercising. Weight lifting restrictions to10 lb, but OB gave me the go ahead at one week pp to lift baby in the carrier. Not vacuuming is the hardest for me.

  • After my DD, I was told no lifting anything more than baby. A gallon of milk was a good guide for weight. No driving while on pain meds.

With my RCS, my OB told me I could pick up my 25 lb. toddler. I was very surprised, but he assured me i was stitched up super well inside. Needless to say, I was picking her up the next day. I had no other limitations. I think each case and each doctor are different though.
