Crying/stiring in sleep

in Babies: 3 - 6 Months
DS will whine-cry in his sleep and thrash around but his eyes stay closed. I've been taking that as a sign that he needs to eat or be soothed. Then I've just read an article on how this is just what babies do. If he does this, should I only attend to him if his eyes are open and assume he's fine if eyes are closed?

    This what I have been doing.  She sometimes cries out and then will sleep for another hour.

    Its the weirdest thing! I got worried one time and woke him up. His eyes popped open and he just grinned at me. I wish I hadn't worried and let him sleep.
