Britax B-Safe and Jetta

I have really liked everything I've read about the Britax B-Safe infant seat, but several reviews have said that it doesn't fit for small cars unless you don't use the base.  Since I drive a VW Jetta, I'm worried about it not fitting.

Does anyone have any experience with this?  If it doesn't fit with the base, any recommendations for another car seat that would fit in it?

I read the review about the Camry, but I think the Jetta is a bit smaller.

My husband had a two door ford focus coupe and it fit in the middle just fine.

My daughter and her husband have a Prius and it is behind the passenger seat. The front passenger seat does need to be pushed up a little but there is still plenty of leg room.

I have a vw tiguan and its not much bigger than the jetta and the britax chaperone fits just fine in the midle. We can slide both front seats all the way back
