Preemies

Hello Ladies =)

I thought that I should probably introduce myself as long as I am going to continue to partake in the community =). I was a lurker in other groups throughout the course of my pregnancy, and now that my girls have arrived and am a first time+stay at home mom I frequently find myself reading up on these boards.

In December 2012 my amazing boyfriend and I found out that I was not only pregnant, but pregnant with mono-di twins! We were definitely shocked, but doubly excited! My pregnancy was actually very easy. No morning sickness, mood swings or absurd 3am food cravings. At 29 weeks I was put on home bed rest as my blood pressure had spiked. At 32 weeks I went in for my routine weekly Dr's appointment and all was well, that is until she checked my cervix at the end of the visit and determined that I was 2cm dilated and 90% effaced. Off to the hospital to be admitted I went! I was put on a magnesium IV to slow contractions and did the 48 hour steroid shots. About 5 hours after clearing my steroid window, the Dr's decided that there was concern in the way that Baby A was responding to the monitors and determined it would be best to do an emergency c-section right then. The whole night was a blur, but at 1:44am on June 10th Kendyl Raie was born 3lb 2oz and Keidyn Renee was born 4lb 1oz.

Kendyl stayed in the NICU until July 6th once she came off of her IV/lipids, was able to maintain her temperatures outside of the giraffe and consistently gain weight/take full feeds. She received 2 blood transfusions after birth as they had TTTS and her sister stole a lot of red blood cells from her. Keidyn joined her at home 4 days later as she had to finish her course of antibiotics for the staph infection that she received from an IV site. Traveling back&forth from the NICU 2x a day was definitely hard, and painful to have to leave them, but I honestly wouldn’t change my experience for the world. Granted, nothing went according to "plan", but things happened the way that they needed to happen in order for my girls to be the best they could be.

Whew. Anyways, I won’t continue to drag this out. Just wanted to introduce myself and say that I am very excited to join you gals here and share our experiences and advice! I look forward to interacting with you all!
