How to interact with my LO's

Hello all! FTM here and I gave birth to my twin girls on June 10th at 33 weeks. They are now 2 months old, however their due date was July 29th so adjusted age is only about 2 weeks.

However, this past week I have noticed that they are starting to stay awake after feedings and I feel that I need to start interacting with them more. Problem is, I have NO prior experience with babies or children what-so-ever. I've tried to grab their attention with rattles, sqeekers and mobiles etc. but they dont really seem to be intereted in/understand them. Everytime I read online about ways to interact with your 2 month old, I'm realizing that my girls arent as developed as the articles are describing (which I'm chalking that up them being premature) but I just wanted to know if anyone out there had any similar experiences or had any advice/input on things that I could do.

Thanks in advance ladies! =)

Re: How to interact with my LO's

  • I am starting to feel the need to interact more too, my boys are 7 weeks, 1 week corrected. I sing to them, and just talk to them about whatever pops into my head. Tonight it was all about football, including the fight song. Sometimes I narrate what I am doing while I wear them in the moby, or what the plans are for the day, etc. I don't think it matters how you interact, just that you are. Good luck with your girls!

  • Talking and singing are great! Anna started with PT and OT in the NICU so our "playing" time mostly consists of therapy exercises! At that age it was pretty much tummy time and side to back rolling as well as working on following things with her eyes.

  • Baby massage. There are YouTube videos on how-to. It's great for bonding, babies' digestion, etc.

  • I have a 34 weeker, born in June. At this point, I talk and sing to her, and take her for stroller rides. We also do tummy time (she is not fond of this) and I read to her. She does not seem interested in rattles or toys at this point. She will hold a blankie, however.
