2 month feeding

My girls are 2 months and I am concerned about their feeding. They eat 4 oz bottles round the clock. They say that babies eat about 2.5 times their weight and these guys are blowing that away. They only go 3 hrs at night and during the day it's a struggle to hold them off 2.5 hrs. I have to hold the binkies in their mouths. If I try to feed them more than 4 oz they don't want it. Any help on how to spread out the feedings?

Re: 2 month feeding

  • It's formula. Thanks for the reassurance. The doc keeps saying they should eat 2.5 times their weight. They are 9 and 11 lbs and def eat more than 20 and 24 oz
  • Mine did the same at that age, they are growing, so it's expected.  The amt of formula/weight ratio is just a guideline, to make sure they are getting enough.  What I do to spread out feedings is to hold them off for that extra half hour (sucks!), then add the extra ounce.  They may or may not eat it, or just eat some of it.  It'll take several feedings to do this.  Eventually they should move out one more hour, or achieve that full 3 hours during the day.  We did 4 oz round the clock for a long time too (4 hours).  They started 5 oz around 3 months, and 6 oz a couple weeks later.  6 oz was the magic number for longer stretches at night.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • That does seem pretty normal.  Although, you should see them lasting a bit longer at night.  Around 2 months our girls were sleeping were starting 6 hour stretches.  They would still eat every 3 hours as well.  If we were out and about, they could last 4 hours.  By 2 months, they were taking 5 oz already. So maybe try putting an extra 1/2 oz in there to see if they'll take it?
