ObGyn in the City

Hi everyone!! I just found out I'm pregnant (for the first time) and I'm relatively new to Chicago so I don't have many friends to ask. I would really like my first pregnancy to be unforgettable in a good way. I've seen many horror stories on Yelp and now I'm getting nervous. I'm hoping some of you lovely ladies can recommend a few doctors that have relatively nice office staffs. I don't need perfection but empathy would be nice. I already am struggling with lots of morning sickness, I don't need rude people on top of that. Please help! Thank you :) Denisse

  • Not sure where you are located or how far you are willing to drive, but I go to Midwest center for women's healthcare in skokie and love it. I have been going to them since day one (I'm currently 22 weeks). I'm a first time mom as well and was so clueless as to how to choose an ob. I talked to many people but it ultimately came down to how I was feeling at the first visit. Don't feel bad if you set up an appointment with an ob and you decide that one isn't for you. It's your body, your baby, and your birth so you should be comfortable with whoever you choose.

  • Hi Denise,
I am pretty much in the same boat. I recently moved here from NYC with no OB. However, I do have a few friends with healthy beautiful children that live here. They referred me to their obs both ladies had RAVE reviews on their docs. I made my first appt with Dr. Venkatachalem (312) 775-1100 on 8/21 because the doctors here for some reason wont see new preggo patients until 8 weeks. Their website www.nswobgyn.com. The second OB I was referred to declined me bc of the baby boom in their office (they werent taking any feb, march, & april babies) but you can give them a shot. Dr. Chen (312) 573-3700 at www.pc4w.com. When are you due? And I hope this helps Hun!

  • Thank you bothnso much for your quick responses!! I am in the West Loop, so Downtown seems to be the best option. Crystal, I will definitely look into the doctors you have recommended and I hope one of them works out. It appears I am due April 1st, 6 weeks along. I hope the 1st isn't when shim decides to come because that's not such a funny April Fool's joke. Look forward to seeing more of all of you here!! Denisse
  • Denise I'm 6 weeks ago too. I'm due march 29th! Let me know if the dr works out. :)
  • Oops Denisse! Sorry
  • Hey Denisse!

I'm in love with Catherine Clinton at Chicago Women's Health Group.

It has been an amazing experience so far.  I would highly recommend her. She is friendly, spunky, and just very blunt (which I prefer).  I'm now 25 weeks and have been seeing her since about 8 weeks.  She explains things, has time for questions and has other doctor's in the practice that are also pretty awesome.  They also offer classes (prenatal, cpr, etc) at this office and are affiliated with Prentice Women's Hospital.  Might be somewhere worth looking into!

Congratulations! - hope everything goes great with your pregnancy!

  • Hi Denisse,

Welcome to Chicago and congrats on your baby!  There are some really fantastic doctors downtown.  I go to the same practice as erin21486 - Chicago Women's Health Group.  I've been seeing Dr. Bonner for the last few years and I love her.  Would highly recommend this group.

I go to this same practice, and I can't say enough good things about them.  They were wonderful with my complicated twin pregnancy.  I know every single Dr in the practice due to being on hospital bedrest for 4 weeks.  They are all great.  I currently see and love Dr. Cox.  Dr Dugan delivered my twins.  I used to see Dr Salasche.  I highly recommend all of them!  Their newest Dr, Dr Wu, is even super sweet.  I saw her in the hospital when I had some postpartum issues.  Great practice that handled complicated very well.

    Good luck!

  • Crystal,

I have an appointment on the same day as you with Dr. Salasche!  What time is your appointment?  Maybe we'll bump into each other :)

  • Hi-

I am looking for an OB that delivers at Prentice. I saw someone's recommendation for Dr. Clinton, so I looked her up. She has good reviews, however her office/practice does not. What has been your experience with the office and appointments? Can she do evening appointments? Do they run late? Thank you!! :)

  • Dr Mehta or dr lukens at northwestern OB/GYN consultants. Office is Literally across the street from prentice. Anytime you have a question, one of the DOCTORS will answer the phone...not a nurse, not a practitioner. Entire Office is extremely friendly and helpful. They are also very timely
  • Hi Erin, I realize this is an old post, but I wanted to get your thoughts on Dr. Bonner's practice.  I've read awful reviews about the rude staff and long wait times (but great things about Dr. Bonner) and wanted to get any thoughts you may have.  Thanks.
