color blind

I'm pretty sure DS is color blind. I first wondered when he'd mix up colors, but didnt think much of it. We came across some of the plate tests online w colored dots and he failed all of them. Should I call the pedi to get him officially tested? Otherwise his next well check is another year away. Anybody else w color blind children? Or you?

Re: color blind

  • DH and my brother are both color blind. They just can't tell certain colors apart. Grays and greens are a big one. Purple and blue...DH swears one of his blue shirts is purple lol

I'd call your pedi and ask if you need to bring him in or schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist.

my brother is...he always always mixes up blue and purple and cant see the red on green or green on red in those tests.

i'm not sure it will make a difference if you know now vs later, but if you want to know...sure...get him tested?

though also...they might want to wait until he's older so it's not just a developmental "got to get these colors DOWN thing"...because some shades of various colors kids could call a different color you know?

I suspected at first when he was 2 and wasn't sure if he was just confused or trying to be funny. With the tests though I asked him to show me which circles had numbers in them and he missed all the red/green/brown combos that they said someone color blind wouldn't see, but saw the other numbers. I might just wait to officially test him because you are right, I'm not sure it makes any difference.

  • My eye doctor tests all boys at their four year eye check up. I would recommend going to an eye doctor. It is good to have a baseline eye tests for all kids anyway.
