Do you clean for the Nanny?

Sorry if this is an old topic here. Just curious if people clean up specifically for the nanny. I'm talking sweeping and scrubbing the toilet, not just washing smelly dishes.

I would, if I had any energy at all. I do feel guilty that I don't clean.

Re: Do you clean for the Nanny?

  • This is one of the reasons that we don't have a nanny. I would feel the need to keep the house spotless (or at least cat hair free) and that would stress me out. It is kind of freeing to leave a dirty house, lock it up and forget about it for ten hours of the day.

  • I don't have a nanny, but I think I would want to provide the same level of cleanliness I would feel comfortable having my neighbors or family drop by unexpectedly - nothing gross, but some things out of place or needing to vacuum is okay.

  • I have a nanny. It doesn't impact at all how I clean my house. In other words I just clean my house normally and I have a housekeeper come once a month.  My nanny washes dishes they use during the day and generally tidies up.  She doesn't mop floors or clean bathrooms, either I do that or the housekeeper does.

Also our house is generally very clean but it's because I make it a point to clean for about 30 min. each night after the girls are asleep  Not fun, but we constantly have people coming over and popping in.
  • No nanny but I wouldn't feel any need to clean specifically for her. It doesn't bother me if she sees a cup I used  or a dirty plate forgotten on the coffee table
  • Thanks. It sounds like you all run much more efficient households than we do. That and DS is just really good at trashing the place, quickly.

  • I don't know if it was fair for me to answer - we only have a nanny as backup care and when I travel for work, but when I do, yes I do pick up a little. I want my DD to have plenty of room to run around and I don't want to leave dirty dishes lying in the sink that the nanny will then feel compelled to wash. Nothing special - just some tasks that I might otherwise let sit til tomorrow, I do the night before the nanny comes over.

  • I don't have a nanny yet (we're in the process of searching/hiring) but I would totally clean for her.  I even pre-clean before the housekeeper comes.  Just a little, just so I don't look completely gross.  It's pathetic, I know.

  • We do. We want her to be comfortable and not have to worry about which mess is ours vs. which mess is hers & the kids.
  • I generally do not clean up for the nanny and sometimes I think she judges me for it.  But I only have so much energy.
