Another PT Post

I'm doing PT with my 24mths dd on Monday she decided she did not want to wear diapers. We are on day 3 of PT but she isn't telling me she needs to go potty. She gets on the potty on her own and pees whenever she feels the sensation. We have been doing diaper less training. We haven't left the house yet or anything. How do I get her tell me she need to go potty? How will this work whenever we leave the house? Pull up or panties? Ill also set the timer every 30mins so if she hasn't got I will remind her to go potty.

Re: Another PT Post

  • My DD was like this. Go with underpants and just expect accidents. When you are out, always show her where the closest bathroom is and carry an extra pair of undies just in case.

Every 30 minutes is somewhat excessive...I'd suggest every hour during the day, and 15 to 20 minutes after a meal.

  • IF you are going out and about - put her in underwear and bring a couple sets of clothes and underwear.  When you get to the store if there is a bathroom there, have her try when you get there and try when you leave.

Chances are she will have an accident sometime while you are out.   You just kind of have to expect it.   Its a learning thing, so bring some changes of clothes and go with the flow.

    She will figure it out

Also - if you are going to target, sometimes there is a family  bathroom by the pharmacy  that doesn't get used often.

  • Today I have her in underwear and she knows when she has to go but she isn't telling me and she isn't pulling down her panties. But she is taking herself to the potty. Do just keep changing her? Will she eventually tell me?

  • Just keep changing her, and remind her while you are changing that she needs to tell you when she needs to go and to pull down her underwear.

My son is 3 and has been PT'd for 6 months and to this day I still have to remind him to go potty about half the time.  He hasn't had an accident in months, but also gets reminded to go potty if I notice he hasn't gone in awhile.    We have some routines built into pottying though- you go when you wake up in the morning, before naps, before we leave the house, etc.   r Those are the ones I usually remind him.

She will catch on just try and be consistent with her.
