Success after IF

Need a success story-first IUI last week and i'm nervous!

Well here's my story so far.. Husband had low morphology on initial semen analysis it was 2% on strict Kruger scale. Normal is >14%. We were told we could try iui but we would most likely have to move to ivf to conceive. We decided to just try iui and see what would happen since i'm only 25, the dr. said time was on my side and to give it a shot. I had my first iui on Saturday morning after clomid for 5 days (cd 5-9) and then ovidrel injection Friday afternoon prior to the iui Saturday morning. On my US Friday morning I had 7 follicles 5 of which were of perfect size to release an egg. The nurse that I saw warned of the risk of multiples and said she would have to check w the dr to make sure I could go ahead w the ovidrel and iui she got back to me and said as long as we knew the risk of multiples and since my husbands morphology was so low, we could proceed. So I went through w the iui and on Saturday morning my husbands semen analysis was improved. His morphology was 29% normal is > or= 30% on the WHO scale not sure why they used that scale that time but they did. Motility of 65% and final count after washing of 25million! I was so happy to hear this and I'm trying to stay hopeful that this will work! What are your thoughts?? Anyone have success after IUI with morphology issues? Sorry for it being so long! This two week wait is gonna be a killer!

  • Yup - DH's morph was 2-3%.  Got pg the first time with Clomid/iui, then had 3 more unassisted pregnancies (one m/c).  Of all the mfi problems, I think morph is the easiest to overcome!  Good luck!!

  • Sounds like his morph has really improved!! That's great news for you. I would think you have a good shot. :)

Just to add a bit of "reality," DH has had 0% morph for all 3 of his SA's, so we weren't given a go for IUI. We went straight to IVF w/ ICSI and had success on our second cycle. We have a beautiful baby girl. I'm only telling you this to let you know that even if IUI doesn't work for you, there is still hope.

In the mean time, plan something fun for your 2WW - a nice dinner, day at the beach, etc. FX this is your cycle. :)
dx: MFI 0% morph & low count. Occasional Anovulatory cycles.

Thanks for the kind words and advice. I'm very happy you had a successful pregnancy even with a low morphology. Positive thoughts :)

My husband has had 1-2% morph depending on the analysis with counts ranging from only 10 million (pre wash) to 50 million (pre wash) and I am pregnant with our third child.

The cycle I got pg with our daughter was a Clomid/IUI cycle and he had 2% morph and 14 million post wash, we got a surprise BFP with our son just before starting to cycle when his count was only 10 million and morph was 2% (obviously we didn't have it washed b/c we got pg on our own, but the RE was telling us his SA was so bad that he probably wouldn't have enough sperm for them to use after the wash) and this last time I got pg I think he had like 50 million (pre wash ... also got pg on our own) with only 1% morph.

I think you guys definitely have a chance.  Good luck.

  • Wow! Sounds like he had some great numbers. I got pg with IUI with 11mil post wash, and 2% morph (as well as endo, dor, and other issues). Good luck!
