Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Always hungry... help!!!!

My LO will be 3 months on the 16th. She is about 13 LBS has great head control and is able to sit in her bumbo seat. I am currently nursing and formula feeding. Lately she seems like all she wants to do is eat. She is eating 35 oz in formula plus eating breast milk. Sometimes she will eat 8oz in a hour. Is this normal or is she ready for cereal? I know you do not want to introduce cereal too soon.

  • 8 oz in an hour is a TON!!!  Have you tried pacing her feeds to mimic BF? YouTube "paced feeding" and there's a good video.  It helps slow them down so they can realize they're full.  NO cereal!  She's WAY too young.  Minimum 4 months, preferably more like 6 months.  Even at 6 months, solids won't take place of milk yet.  And, you can probably just skip the cereal when you start solids at 6 months anyway - not a lot of nutritional value!

  • I second PP with paci and no cereal.

My 14 month old takes 8oz at bedtime only. 6oz at nap. Im all for feeding on demand, but that seems like she demanding alot. If she is just in a growth spurt, she should be over it in a week or so.

  • Ok... I thought it was too soon for cereal but wanted to check since I have heard of people putting it in bottles for infants. Yesterday she ate 35 oz formula plus nursing and I know I don't make much milk maybe 6-8oz a day. This has been going on for some time now. She won't take a paci I've tried to use that so she can see she is full but she won't take it.

My guy sounds like yours! What has helped us are slow flow nipples. Maybe try Dr. Brown's bottles/nipples that are for preemies and have a very slow flow. This just helps pace them a little more, my guy won't take the paci either.
