I need some love.

I hosted a play date for my mom's group last week. My house backs up to a park that has a bike path and playground. I planned a Road Rally where kids could bike, ride in a wagon, be pushed in a stroller, etc and at different check points, there would be a special surprise (tattoos, snack, etc) waiting for them. Kinda like the Mickey Mouse Road Rally episode- fun right? No one came. I had to beg 2 friends to come just so it wasn't a total flop. Today I hosted a play group in my home. I stayed up late cleaning and making home made banana bread! Out of 5 people who RSVPd yes and 5 people on the wait list, 1 mom came. ONE. I'm really trying not to get butt hurt, but I've spent a lot of time preparing for these stupid playgroups. And I feel like a total loser begging for friends and no one wants me. These feelings might also be intensified by the popularity/bump crush threads from yesterday, as long as I'm being honest. Pity party- table for 1! I'm serving wah burgers and French cries.

Aw, that's horrible.  They both sound awesome.  DD loves MM Road Rally.  Try not to take it personally.  Plans change so much with kids at this age.   They have a bad day, get sick last minute, decide to sleep in till 10.  It's hard to plan.  It is kind of shitty that people just didn't show up though.  Did anyone offer any explanations?

that is so shitty  those play dates sound like a lot of fun!  the meetup group i was a part of disbanded for the same reason.  tons of people would RSVP and no one would show up.

The Road Rally was a bust bc no one even RSVPd! I thought it was this awesome idea, moms could talk, get exercise, and the kids can get excited about their surprises! I guess not. My in-home playgroup flopped. Most people wrote on my wall that "something came up" or their kid was sick. Only a couple changed their RSVP last minute w/o explanations. I'm on the organizing team this year, so it's partly my responsibility to put play dates on the calendar. It just sucks to feel this way!

I am so sorry that happened.  I would be really hurt as well.  To RSVP yes and then not attend is a jackass move.  

Your ideas sound amazing and fun...I wish I was a member of your mom groups!

@LaurelBee I would bring this up at the next committee meeting.  It sucks for people to do all this work if members are not going to be committed to getting together.  Sure shit comes up, but for everyone at the same time?  Maybe some were sick, but some probably just decided to bag on it last minute or something better came up (although I can't imagine anything better than a road rally).  I would mention what you said in the OP and suggest maybe the group not waste effort organizing all this stuff.  Maybe just have a standing play date at a park or somewhere and whoever shows up gets to play and if not, no effort wasted.

That stinks big time! We'd love to get invited to those types of playdates.

The ones we host usually involve me cleaning like a maniac beforehand and once again after everyone leaves. That's probably why I haven't hosted in months.

Road Rally was at 10, but since it was at a park, I planned to be there until lunch time. In home started at 930. One mom asked if she could come after her baby's morning nap- I said of course! She didn't show. I was thinking about hosting a camping themed playgroup in the afternoon sometime. Put the tent up in our yard, going "fishing" in the kiddie pool, maybe make s'mores or something. But I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble! I haven't felt this shitty since HS.

I would totally go to this.  You have really good ideas.  I'm going to page you when it comes time to plan DD's bday party.

I'm sorry you feel so down. I probably would too. All of the things you did sound awesome! They don't deserve your efforts if they are going to be so flaky.

I would join a MOMS group if they had activities like yours!

RSVPing and bailing is lousy. Especially if it's a small group so people really notice it if someone is missing. It is odd though that 5 of 6 people suddenly had plans. Have you ever had any mean-girls-all-grown-up vibes from any of them?

Yes, some. But it was kind of a random group that RSVP'd so it really surprised me when only one came. Did they just all switch cafeteria tables on me and not tell me? That sucks

OP, I wish I had a moms group with people that hosted this kind of events! Sounds like a lot of fun..I'd totally go. Sorry the others bailed on you...that's shitty to have put in so much effort and have people flake on you.
