Parenting after a Loss

Shoes

So DS is really walking all over the place now, so I realized we need to seriously invest in some shoes now.  I guess I don't really know how to do this.  Like what shoes are "good" for new walkers?  Also, what about the sizing?  I get cute deals online all the time but then I don't know if the sizing matches with what I think he is.  He's wearing his size 5 TOMS right now (that I got as a great zulily deal) but I don't know if that would translate to size 5 everywhere or if it varies.  Help?

  • We are Stride Rite fans. Extra $$, but the quality is worth it.

  • Peanut, I responded, but think it turned into a PM instead!

I agree with Junebug on Stride Rite.  The extra pennies are worth it for their developing little tootsies, even though they grow out of it.

  • Where can one find Strite Rite shoes?  I feel like my mom used to take us to a Stride Rite store, but I haven't seen those in years.

We have them at the mall here in San Diego. They are online as well.

  • There are Stride Rite shoes in the malls here in LA. They always measure LO's feet whenever we go in there for shoes (PS. She freaks the F out every time so just a warning).

We just got a pair of "water shoes" and DD was a 6.5 at 22 months (today!) so a 5 sounds about right for 16 months.

  • Our small suburb has a kids show store that carries a lot of brands, including Stride Rite.  While I have not sought them out speficically, the shoes we have selected the last couple times out were SR.  They fit well, and are very durable.  Because it is a small store, they clear through inventory and we have managed to get pairs on sale which is awesome.  DS' feet are on the small side, he is a 6 at 22 months and has room to go.

If you go to any kids shoe store they will measure for size and go from there.  Good luck!

  • Love Striderite shoes. We have an outlet a couple hours away and otherwise we wait for a sale. They are cute, durable, soft soled so they move well with her feet. And they just fit so well. I pretty much have disliked every other brand we have tried.

D's right there with G.  We got him measured at SR like a week ago and he was a 6.5.

  • Love Stride Rite. I get all of DSs everyday shoes there. I also like Payless for things like sandals and boat shows for DS. They measure his feet there as well. He got some really cute fisherman sandals there & I'll have to look what line they were, but basically the bottoms on them are just like sneakers and they look really comfy. Maybe smartfit?

  • I like Stride Rite and Pedipeds.  Both have proven to be durable in our experience, and both have a seal of acceptance or approval from the American Podiatric Medical Association for some of their lines.

  • Our stride rite tennis shoes are the only shoes my DD can walk in...she trips a lot if I try putting a cuter pair on her. (they are cute, don't get me wrong, but tennis shoes with dresses aren't my thing).

She has short, fat feet - a size 3.5 wide at almost 15 months.  I have heard pedipeds might be good but haven't invested in them since I can't find them locally to try on.

There's a stride rite outlet by me.

These are the shoes I mentioned I got for DS. I'm pretty sure they have girl ones too. Dressy on top with a tennis shoe bottom. I was actually shocked by their quality.
