Waking Baby

How do you all handle waking your LO when it's time to go to work and he or she is still sleeping soundly? My LO's favorite new wake up time is 7am, but I need to be out the door by 7, so I have to get him up around 6 to get him fed and dressed and ready to go. I feel so bad waking him up. How do you handle your morning routine? This wasn't difficult when he like to wake up at 5:30! (although I'm sure I'll be thankful for 7am on the weekends)

Re: Waking Baby

  • I feel ya. DD is always super sleepy when she gets to daycare. It's tough, but I usually just creep out of bed in the morning, and she usually wakes up a few minutes after I'm gone (we bed share).

  • We do a six am wake up. We've got her main light on a dimmer switch.. About 10 minutes before I'm ready to wake her up, I turn it on about half way. When we do wake her up, I tickle her back until she starts to wake, and we slowly get into the day. She'll usually look at me like she hates me for a few seconds, but by the time her diaper's changed, she's her happy self.

I also have a morning baby, so we're VERY lucky there.

  • It's no fun, but since it has to be done, it's done. If kiddo is still asleep at 6:45, he's woken, changed, and buckled into the carseat so we can be out the door by 7. He's a little unhappy at first, but by the time his diaper is changed, he's pretty calm.

We very rarely have to wake DS since he likes to be up before 6am.  But when we do, it's pretty awful because he looks so cozy in bed.  DH won't even do it, I have to be the bad person!  But we honestly wait until the very last second.  We're out the door by 6:15 - 6:30 and wake him up as close to 6 as possible, change his diaper as he has a bottle, get dressed and out the door.  He's pretty much his happy self after his bottle.

I'll go in his room, put a dim light on, shut off his white noise & humidifier, start getting some clothes out, rub his back... and he starts waking up on his own.

  • I'm like you ccam. I just hate disturbing him. His best sleep is from 4-7, so it stinks to interrupt it. I think maybe tomorrow I'll try turning a dim light on, since several of you have suggested that as a way to get him up more graddually.

  • I've only had to do it a handful of times. This morning was one. Generally he's up at 6 or 6:30 at the latest.
I waited as long as I could by getting most stuff done ahead of time.
  • I'd agree on timing.. You probably won't need to be up an hour in advance. We're usually up at 6 and ready to go by 6:15 at the latest.

  • I get my LO up at 6:10 to be out the door at 6:30 (5 min to get up and change the diaper, 10-15 to nurse, and 5 min to get in the carseat and out the door).  I get everything ready to go before I get him up.  We use a sound machine, so I turn it off first and that usually wakes him enough.  I then turn on a small lamp on the dresser so I don't have to turn on the overhead light while I change him, then out to the living room (nurse there so momma can watch the news).
  • I gently pick her up and put her on the changing table and start the diaper change and she slowly wakes up as I'm changing her. I figure that way we get part of the change done before she is even awake. But if I wake her up I only wake her up about 15 minutes before we leave..

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!
