MOTN Feedings

Does anyone else have to feed their LO every time they wake up in the middle of the night? My DD's sleep is pretty inconsistent. Sometimes she wakes 4 times a night, sometimes 2. But no matter how often she wakes up she must be nursed or she screams her head off. No one but me can go in and get her back to sleep. Even if its just been an hour since she last ate she still demands to be nursed. How can I break this habit? It would be nice if DH could soothe her once a night so I can get some sleep!

Re: MOTN Feedings

  • DD is 4.5 months old.

  • It's not a habit. She may be hungry, she may not be. She may be checking to see if you're still around or wanting to pacify herself on you to soothe her to sleep. I get up 1-3 times a night. The first year is all about this and then it'll level out and she won't wake as much. By 6 months they can sleep longer
  • I don't know if you use a pacifier, but maybe she needs to soothe a little with some sucking?  I have no idea on the hunger part, but we just started dropping feedings overnight (they are FF).  They usually have a bottle between 6-8pm and if it's on the early side of that time frame, I might give them a snack bottle around 9 or 10 and they usually sleep until 5 or 6.  They are also up to 6 or 7 oz a feeding.  So maybe that's what all the extra feedings are for?  She needs more in one sitting and your supply is working to catch up?  Hopefully she'll work through it soon and you all can get some rest again!
