E. A. S. Y. Routine

Any mothers out there using the EASY routine from The Baby Whisperer ??

I have been doing this with DD for a few weeks now and it's been working out great for us. This week however DD has been taking shorter naps and waking up earlier. She's been waking up about 30-45 minutes before its time to Eat.

What am I supposed to do with her during that time ? Should we play ? I don't want her though to then think the schedule is Eat, Activity, Sleep, Activity, Eat. She already is used to the schedule of Eat, Activity, Sleep. Should I feed her when she wakes up even if it hasn't been 3hrs and she may not even be hungry yet?

What are you moms doing to stay on schedule with EASY when your LO throws you a curve ball ?

Any advice/tips are greatly appreciated !

  • The book would say you do the pick up put down method until they 'should' get up from their nap.  To me however I think that's a bit stupid (I like the idea of EASY but if my baby wakes up and is hungry/wants something at this age I'm going to do it).  I would likely do this Eat Activity Eat Activity Sleep (because if he's not really hungry that first feed will be short).

  • Could it be a growth spurt? I ebf and I feed DD whenever she's hungry. I try to have DD on the schedule she set for herself. It seems to be working for us. But whenever she goes through a growth spurt it all goes out the window. She nurses all the time during those.

  • She's not waking up bc she's hungry. I guess she's just taking shorter naps this week. I was just wondering what I should do with her until she starts to show those hunger ques which I usually beat bc she usually wakes up right at the time she is due to eat.
  • I basically follow EASY though I haven't read the book.  When DS wakes up before it's "time to eat", it seems like it's just because he needs some security.  So I'll pick him up and hold him for a while, then put him back down to sleep or I'll just give him a paci and sometimes that is all he needs.

  • I would just follow your LO's cues. If she is awake and super alert, I would go for some play time. If she is awake but kind of zoning out, I would let her just chill either holding her or in a swing or chair or somewhere not so stimulating. Of course, if she's hungry, no matter what time it is, go ahead and feed her. EASY is a great method, but only if it works with your kiddo!

  • My DD is 4 weeks tomorrow, without planning, we've been following EASY - a question i have though, if she eats for 40 min, then is awake/active for an hour to hour and a half, do I have to wake her from her nap after an hour to keep her to a 3 hr feeding schedule? I've always had the thought to let her sleep...any advice?
  • I don't live or die by the clock so to say. Just more to sticking to the actual routine of eat, activity, sleep. So that always after she wakes up whenever that may be I feed her unless her nap is extremely short and then most likely she wouldn't be hungry.

My pedi told me that once baby reaches his birth weight, you can let him sleep as long as he wants.
