TTC after 35

Update on TTC: some frustration and some CM queries

So we've actually taken practical steps towards trying to have a baby. You know rather than just SAYING we're trying, we've actually had unprotected sex.

However, DD2 is still BF, and still no period. I think she's nudging herself towards weaning, and I've decided to give her until she's 2 before I do anything about it. (she's 18mths)

So my frustration is that I regularly have CM that appears to be fertile (eggwhite, followed by watery) so I get all excited that I'm finally ovulating and that my period won't be too far away. Then nothing.

I've considered charting my temperature, but both my little ones wake up regularly, so I think it would be difficult to get some consistency. Plus with no real reason to think I'm ovulating I jsut think it would get tedious.

It did make me wonder though if it's possible to ovulate and not get your period, maybe something along the lines of your body ovulates but your body hasn't built up and lined the uterus, and so there's nothing to shed?

Also, I am ever the optimist, and I realise it is possible to get pregnant before I get my period back if we are having sex regularly. So my other questions is, waste a fortune on testing every couple of weeks? Or wait until I feel like I have pregnancy symptoms?

Hope all is well with you ladies. very exciting to see the BFP lately. Best wishes to everyone.

Re: Update on TTC: some frustration and some CM queries

  • What about using OPK's when you see fertile CM? I have had friends get preg before their first pp period. However, if its month after month, it sounds like you aren't ovulating yet. How often is your dd nursing?

  • I hadn't thought of OPK's.

The fertile looking CM has happened 4 or 5 times, and without having analysed it, it feels like there's been roughly a month between each occasion.

DD is nursing first thing in the morning, last thing before bed, and once over night (normally around 2am ish) so three times. But on the weekend, when we're together all day, she nurses a couple of times in the day too.

  • It could be that you just aren't ovulating yet, I know some people have to be down to one feeding a day.

If you buy Wondfo brand off Amazon.com, they are cheap and work just as well as the drug store brands, for less than half the cost. I am using them right now and did when we were TTC before.

  • I think some discharge can look like CM. I agree with buying cheap opks. My friend got pregnant with her second while nursing so it can definitely happen.
