Getting Arms and Legs Stuck in Crib

My DS is 14 months old, tall and lean. He is getting his legs and arms stuck in the crib slats several times a night. We just bought a crib bumper to help but I read that he can use it as a step to climb out of the crib. Yikes! I could see him doing that but I am not sure of other options. Has anyone found something that works for you? TIA!

Re: Getting Arms and Legs Stuck in Crib

  • My son steps on his bumpers and they just fold under. They do not give him any extra height.

  • LO's bumper didn't help in the long run and it made it worse.... she sleeps with arms/legs out of crib and only once did she actually get it stuck and need help. (her knee was outside the crib through the slots) In our experience the bumper only got her tangles up more. She learned pretty quickly how to pull her arm/leg back into the crib for when she changes positions
  • DS has gotten stuck twice but that was months ago.  We've never added bumpers and he's learned to not roll/bang his head or get limbs stuck.  If he's fighting sleep and playing he'll throw his legs out between the slats but can always get them back out.  I would avoid them but it's basically because I don't want to purchase something I'm not going to get much use out of and I would hate having to change the sheets with bumpers on.
  • Thanks everyone! I loosened the bumpers a little so they fold down all the way and I feel that they are safe. Since he is so thin his legs would go out past his knees most of the time. He was calling for help several times a night to get unstuck.

  • Make sure his mattress is on the lowest setting.
