Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Why will my baby not stop spitting up???

*sorry for the spelling & the book I've written. =)*
Hi! I am a young ftm (22 as of 2 weeks ago) & I second guess everything. My lo is almost 4 months old and she never stops spitting up. I am the oldest of 6 kids and so I thought I would be able to handle a child of my own. I thought at first maybe it was my breast milk (I bf for the 1st month) so I started pumping just to see how much she was eating. She would eat about 4 oz and spit a little less than half back up. I changed my diet but nothing worked so we started her on enfamil Ar which worked great for about 3 days. Then it was back to square 1 since then we have tried gerber soothe, similac for fussiness, similac foer spit up, nutramigen, and finally similac alimentium. We have seen 2 different drs for her & they have both said some babys just spit up. THIS IS NOT A NORMAL AMOUNT OF SPIT UP! For a 8 hr work day I take her to the baby sitter (which btw 2 have quit because it is too much to handel) with a diaperbag and a small backpack full of clothes bibs & burp cloths & most days she will come home with 1 maybe 2 clean outfits. I guess it just bothers me more than anything else & I feel selfish for it. I can do laundry all day long so that's not what bothers me. I'm terrifed to let my friends & family hold her at gatherings or in town because of this issue. I am afraid to take her to the grocery store because what if she starts gaging while I'm driving? The only good thing is that she is gaining weight & she smiles all while destroying your outfit with her spit up. I have tried what I feel like is everything we can do to make a difference. Feed sitting up, add rice cereal, not much movement for 30 mins after, elevate when sleeping (wedge), nipple sizes, burp after every ounce, ect... I just don't know what to do any more. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Why will my baby not stop spitting up???

  • Well seems like we'll just have to cope best we can. Pedi did perscribe zantac but we didn't see any difference. I really wish it wasn't normal. But she's pretty perfect so I guess she had to have at least 1 flaw. Lol. Just everyone say a prayer that my washer doesn't break down.
  • Normal! :) my baby out grew it at around 6m. And at 8m , his age now, will sporadically spit up. He would spit up , then smile at you about it! Lol. As long as ur baby is gaining weight, I wouldn't worry about it. Just have lots of bibs, towels and clothe on hand!

She's spitting up because her mama's a stinker. :P ETA: For anyone horrified that I would insult a complete stranger, Lacyaria and I are actually good friends in real life. We were pretty much pregnant together.
