Feeding -2 month old

Hi ladies! my lo is breast and bottle fed but lately more bottle fed because she has a mild protein allergy and was placed on similac alimentum. She will eat 3-4 oz every feeding but she's so long a skinny so i'm worried about how much i should be feeding her. She has her 2 month vaccines and doc appt so i will ask then but curious about your lo and how much they eat or ate at that age. Thanks!

Re: Feeding -2 month old

  • our DD is 2months and drinks 4oz every 3hrs during the day. At night she goes much longer as she cluster feeds before bed and usually goes down about 6-7hrs for her first stretch of night sleep. Then will eat 4oz and go back down for another 3 to 4 hrs. Today I am increasing her to 5oz. We EFF.

  • DD is 2 months and eating 3-4 oz/feeding which are around 2 hrs apart, except at night when she eats 5 hrs apart 2x. She is eating 50/50 BM/formula. Her 2 month appt is on Friday. She isn't skinny by any means, but not overly chubby, either.

  • Hi! Kinda in the same boat as you. LO was breast & bottle fed but may have milk allergy so is on alimentum too. He eats 4 oz every 3-4 hrs and same at night. Right now the dr told me to pump for a week and then reintroduce breastmilk if doing well on alimentum. Are you still breastfweding with alimentum? Is it working out? Did you have to change your diet?

Mine is the same as yours and is 2 months. She drinks 3-4 oz a sitting. I just saw the pedi today for her shots and 2 month check-up and she's perfectly within normal range. I'm sure you're right on track too.

    Anniversary

  • 2 months and has been eating 2 to 3oz of Alimentum every 2.5 to 3 hours. She's been at this amount for a solid month. Sometimes in the evening she will take 4 to 6 ounces but not everyday.

I  feel like it doesn't matter how much we feed our LO, he wants to eat every 3 hours. We were feeding him 4 oz every 3 hours, and then the other day he wanted to eat and eat and eat, so my husband and I upped it to 5/6 oz. We were hoping he would hold off to every 4 hours, but still it's every 3 hours. lol. (he's 11 weeks).
  • At my LO 2 month appt his pedi said he should be eating 25-30 oz/day. He was only eating 20-24 because that's all he wanted. I now offer him 6 oz and let him eat as much as he wants and burp him at the end (per pedi it's fine to do this if it works) if i stopped to burp him mid bottle he wouldnt eat much more. he's now eating between 25-30 oz/day. He eats every 2 1/2-3 hours, sometimes 4 hours, but sttn. He's EFF.
  • Our LO is BF on demand during the day and then at night we do a formula bottle. He was just two months yesterday and we are now up to 5oz formula bottle at night. When I do give a BM bottle during the day its usually 4oz. At his 2mo visit he was 11.7lbs and doc seemed to be perfectly fine with where is growth is at.

we are transitioning to EFF... wondering how you handle a cluster feed? just make 2oz bottles?
  • She basically has 4 ounces sometime between 6:00 and 6:30pm. Then we play a bit and at around 7:15-7:30 she has a bath. After that she'll take another 2 to 3 ounces and will fall right asleep usually till about 2:00 to 3:00am. This is our night time routine and has been working out great for us. We pretty much followed DD's lead.
  • Late to the party, but I EP and LO gets 4.5 oz bottles every 2-3.5 hours and averages about 25 to 28 oz per day. She is 10 weeks old and we just started going from 3.5 oz bottles to 4.5.

  • Why does the amount of formula need to be increased as kids age? From what I've been told, when they are breastfeeding, they eat the same amount, but when they are formula fed, the amount increases.

Breastmilk is able to change it's content as your LO gets older so it'll have more calories. In order to get more calories from formula, you have to up thr amount.

  • My LO is almost 8 weeks and eats about every three hours, sometimes more sometimes less.  I BF, then feed him pumped breast milk and formula - usually about 5 oz total from bottles per feed (not sure if he gets much from BF)
  • Our 6 week old eats 4 or 5 oz bottles (some combo of formula and breast milk) every 3 - 3.5 hrs; usually 35 oz per day. This is WAY more than most babies but our son did the same and our dr is happy with her intake and gain.
