DS is starting daycare soon, and I asked the director of the center how much pumped milk she thought he would need, and she gave me a printout that was based on a formula feeding, AND the printout suggested giving the baby a bottle full of water if the baby was gaining too much weight?? Huh? First, advice for a formula fed baby is different for a breastfed baby, and no baby, FF or BF, should be getting bottles of water! I'm kind of put off that she is dispensing this kind of information to parents. Should I say something to her or not? I know it's bad advice and I can ignore it, but other new moms may not. TIA!
Re: should I say something to new DC provider?
Usually you determine how much a BF baby needs by dividing 25 ounces by the number of feedings they take per day, then send enough bottles for how long they will be there. When DD started daycare at 6 weeks she was there for about 10 hours and we sent 4 3.5 ounce bottles. Over time we gradually increased to 4.5 ounce bottles by the time she was 10 months old.
Just today I mentioned DD gets constipated sometimes w/ BMs harder than normal and ONLY THEN did she recommend a bottle of water or water/prune juice mix. Water is not recommended any other time.
Edited to add: DD is FF.
