Baby Names

Looks vs. Sounds

I was just in a discussion where I saw a name I loved the LOOK of, but wasn't quite as fond of how the name sounded. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I am totally okay with the fact that I may just be a weirdo...

Re: Looks vs. Sounds

  • Nope, I totally get it. I can't recall any off the top of my head but I know what you mean.

  • Yep, I love the look and feel of Daphne but don't love the sound

  • You saying Daphne reminds me of how I used to love the name Pheobe as a kid, and growing up I"d go between loving and hating how it looked...

Ha, sorry. It's one of my good friend's name and I always double think on  how to spell it. I want the "e" to be first.

Now that you say that, I think that's one of the reasons I let the name go... I couldn't get over that "O" being first....
  • You just described DD's name. But the look is what turns most people off, vs the sound. I don't care, I love it ;)
  • Peyton

  • Woops I meant the opposite. I like the sound of Peyton but I think it looks really ugly

  • Holden. It looks so strong and sophisticated. Until I say it aloud, and then it bothers me.

  • I love the way Alaina sounds but hate the way it looks. I tried to talk myself into it for a possible DD (we were Team Green) but DH said it had way too many "A's", lol. That's my problem with it too. I also don't like the spelling Elena.

  • Naomi. I think it looks really interesting and cool, but when I hear it I think it's terrible and not pretty at all.

  • Katarina. It looks so feminine and exotic, but when I say it out loud, all I hear is "CAT."

  • Caoimhe was one of our top girl names. I actually love the look and the sound (Keva), but I thought it would be too frustrating to have to pronounce/spell all the time.

  • A lot of names, mostly for girls-but opposite. I love the sound but they look clunky or will be mispronounced. Hence my Anais post awhile ago ;)
