I saw some cute whale-themed bedding at Pottery Barn Kids. I have no idea if that would be going overboard or not (haha! puns!) but it was cute.

I like your style CV! You can't go wrong with the ticking stripe. Or I would keep the bedding simple white (or with a subtle boat pattern) and do a navy+white area rug on the floor to pull it all together:

i do like this (and the price!) but i was going to do wide horizontal striped curtains.   too much?

I think ticking stripe bedding + one wide stripe (floor or curtain) is OK, but both would be too much. I'm seeing a neutral burlap or linen for the curtains with lots of texture.

Maybe a navy and white/off-white stripe? I'm thinking thick stripes.

I think plain Navy would look good. I was in Marshall's the other day and thought of you. They have some really great crates and nautical like stuff floating around at the one by my moms house in NJ.
