European Cruise?

DH and I are thinking about doing it big for our 10th anniversary and going on a cruise to Europe. This would not be for another 3 1/2 years so right now I am just poking around on the internet looking at iteneraries and seeing what is out there for funsies. If you've done this type of cruise did you enjoy it? Any particular cruise line or itenerary you would recommend?

Re: European Cruise?

  • We looked at it for our honeymoon but couldn't afford it based on airfare to get over there!  Make sure you take that into account from day one.  The cruises were affordable, the airfare was not.  I reallllly liked the ones that did the Italian/French Riviera.

We did Royal Caribbean from Barcelona, we flew in there and we ported at Florece, Naples, Rome, Nice and Toulon.
A few things, the ports aren't always in the city you want to be in. IE taxis and lots of walking for you and wasting part of the day. Also, maps there are horrible FYI.
European cruises on some cruise lines are smoker friendly, and that can be a big negative for some.
I would recommend if its your first time to Europe because you see a lot quickly, but personally I would rather be in once place for a longer time if we went to Europe again

  • We did a cruise out of Rome that stopped in Sicily, Athens, Crete, and Kusadasi (Turkey). It was a lot of fun. We are not big on booking excursions through the cruise line as we like to explore on our own.

The major cities are not really where they stop. It was probably a 30couple minute train ride.

We loved it and wiuld totally do it again. I want to do the one that is Spain, France, and Italy.

If you do decide ro go i would really recommend arriving a couple days early and getting adjusted to the time. Plus airfare is cheaper midweek.
  • Thanks for the tips!

  • My brother and SIL went in a Mediterranean cruise with Norwegian a couple years ago and loved it. They're currently on a Scandinavian cruise and also loving it.

    I am jealous.

  • I went on a Princess cruise in the Scandinavian countries - Oslo, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and someplace in Sweden. It was awesome, and those were the actual port cities, so we had full days to explore or do excursions.
