To find out or not to...

So we were surprised with DS and DD. loved the surprise both times. This time I'm really leaning towards finding out. DH is good with either. I guess I want to just gothru all of our baby stuff and get rid of what we dont need and actually be prepared this time. I feel like I have less energy this time around and don't want to take the time after baby comes to sort through stuff. Ok- I'm pretty sure I will find out. What are you doing and is there any special reason you are choosing to find out or be surprised? When we chose to be surprised- it was bc it was DH's moment to shine when he announced it to family/friends. It's all about mommy and baby before and after- but that moment all eyes were on him with anticipation when he got to the waiting room. Both times he was so excited to go out and announce!

Re: To find out or not to...

  • We plan to find out. We found out with our daughter, and were very happy to be able to bond with her during that time as our daughter. We will absolutely find out again this time if LO is cooperative.

I agree, your DH can still be the one to announce it to people, whether it be through a party, in person or a phone call.

  • Finding out, same reasons as OP.  Want to weed through all the baby junk & make sure we have what we need for babies, & b/c I prepare about a month before they're due so all I need to do is wait & go when ready.
  • For me it's a surprise whenever we find out and it would be too stressful for me to not have everything planned and organized/bought.
  • I would love to be surprised but I think we are leaning towards finding put. I'm a total planner and list maker and I think I would drive myself and everyone around me bonkers if I didn't know.

  • We're finding out. I'm too impatient to wait nine months and I'm not a fan of gender neutral nurseries. I also wanna do what OP is doing. If it's another boy then we're set, but if it's a girl, I want to get rid of all the boy clothes and stuff I've been holding on to and get ready for a girl. It would be a relief to empty some of those boxes out of storage.

  • I am quite impatient, and would love to have a gender test done, but DH an I are leaning toward not finding ou before the birth.

WHY: I am prone to depression, very very serious, debilitating depression. Recent medical studies and surveys have indicted strongly that the likelihood of postpartum depression occurring in mothers who do not find out the sex of the baby before the birth is near to nil. Like I said, being prone to it without crazy hormones, we are doing everything that we can to avoid PPD. So we are lening towards a surprise delivery. :)
  • We want to know! :) I just don't think I could wait the full 9 months without knowing!
  • We didn't find out with our daughter and loved it. It was amazing to find out she was a girl after laboring and be able to call everyone and tell them, rather than just 'she's here.' I know everyone says they are too practical or too much of a planner to not know, but one of the reasons we didn't find out was for practical reasons. Now all of our baby stuff is gender neutral and we can use it all for baby #2. Even not knowing in advance, we received such a ridiculous amount of pink stuff after she was born that I can't imagine having known in advance. I'm just not a fan of gender-specific everything - DD's room is dark blue and we love it. Plus, we received stuff we actually needed instead of just clothing, and it kept me from buying too much baby stuff in advance :)

  • We are Team Green...we were the first 2 times too.

We just like the idea of it being the baby who tells us when they make their arrival.  We have all gender neutral stuff for all of the essentials and all of the clothes are in storage containers.  We'll be all set either way since there have been quite a few boys born and we have been offered plenty of clothes haha.

    *All are Welcome*

  • Ladies ive got one for you. I wanted my first child to be a suprise. I wait 9 freaking months, shop in neutral colors and just before I begin pushing the dr says; "WELL SINCE ITS A BOY..." Unfreakin believable!!!
  • @springbaby03 Oh I would have lost it, that doctor would have gotten a nice kick to the face! ;)

  • Omg that would be very hurtful. :( Maybe whoever wants a surprise shod tell doctor and everyone in the delivery room that you don't want to know u til you are holding the baby.
  • We're finding out because we want to know as much as our parents want to know. Since our families live so far away, there was no one to announce it to, so that didn't really matter so much. We have a son now so I would like to know so I can get girl clothes and bedding if need be!

  • We will be finding out for sure. Since I work with children too I have found myself to be such a planner. Lo will be our first and my Dh was so excited to know that I too wanted to find out. We know a girl name we want, but if its a boy we would really need to start coming up with some options!!
